you should have stopped long ago ... ask your vet what shots he/she recommends and then ask about the prevalence of those diseases where you live, if there is no prevalence, no need for shots ... people are scammed all the time by vets for unnecessary medications including monthly dewormers and my vet tried to push testing for heartworm and monthly heartworm and there is no heartworm where i live ... big old scam ... my current dog has not had shots for seven years and she is 11 ... my previous dog did not have shots for the last 11 years of his life and he lived to 17 ... if you are concerned about disease protection, get the titers measured instead ... i had my dogs rabies titre measured recently and 7 years later she still has sufficient antibodies to fight rabies ... did i mention scam ...

My vet, along with most others, stops vaccinating dogs at 10 years of age. They've had all the shots they need by then.

  • 1 decade ago

Maybe. I don't vaccinate my older dogs without doing titer tests first. This is a blood test that lets you know if they are protected. Some vaccines can protect for years. Ask your vet to test him. If he spends any time at dog parks, boarding kennels or groomers, you may want to vaccinate him at least every other year. Rabies he must have by law, but get the 3 year vaccine so he doesn't have to have as many shots.

You need to continue rabies by law but he almost certainly has all the antibodies he will ever need for everything else. In 3 or 4 years you might want to have the Vet give him a blood titer, but according to my Vet, he should be fine

I've only given my dogs rabi shots. Usually other shots can kill a dog. i suggest not only the one would do fine.

Well, he definitely still needs his rabies shots, ask your veterinarian about if he needs other vaccinations whenever you take him in for that.
