Why do many liberals hate guns? Or firearms ownership in general?
Isn't private firearms ownership the cornerstone to securing freedom from any tyrannical government? Don't I have a right to put food on my table too? And protect myself from violent criminals?
More laws and restrictions obviously only affect the law abiding people. Why don't they get this through their thick skulls?

People with firearms make it easier to stop criminals and provide a disincentive for the government to try and reach for too much power.

Liberals don't hate guns, they just don't see the point of citizens owning assault rifles.
BTW, do you know what only thing Obama has done in regards to gun laws since coming into office?
Answer: You are now allowed to take guns into national parks.
.....oh, I'm guessing you're still going keep spread the lie that liberals want to take your guns away.
Try getting your information from the ACTUAL politicians that say these things instead I'd relying on right wing pundits "hear say" accounts of what's being said. You will be amazed to find out how much "information" is fabricated by fox news and am radio. If you care about the truth you will fact check what you hear before repeating online and.embarrassing yourself.
For some reason I think you will continue on with your willful ignorance....

i dont mind if a person has a firearm at home locked up and is intended for defense (burglars, etc.)
but like when people feel the need to walk around with firearms on them talking about "this is my constitutional right", im just like why do you feel the need to do that?
and on top of that, we're in the 21st...the gov't is more than likely not going to take over by violent brute force..trust me there are definitely more effective and less obvious means that guns will not protect us against.

It'll make us easier to control. Just look at the UK; it's a police state where the citizens have no means to protect themselves from lethal violence.
Criminals don't follow the law, that's why they're criminals. You make an excellent point!

I'm not a liberal but a democratic socialist, and I can't answer for "liberals" as a group in any case.
However, I live in a big city, and in the past 20 years there have been maybe 5-10 fatal shootings in my neighborhood. That makes me strongly opposed to handgun owership in urban areas, although think it's fine for hunters in rural areas to own & carry shotguns and rifles.
About half the shootings that have occurred in my urban neighborhood here in Washington DC occurred in the early 1990s. They were apparently the work of a single crazy man, a serial killer, who drove around killing strangers with shotgun blasts for no apparent reason.
Another three gun-related murders that I know of in my neighborship were connected to robberies.
One involved a guy getting robbed and murdered in an alley, apparently by people who burned him in a drug deal.
A second murder was of a middle class 27-year-old guy who was shot and killed one afternoon by armed robbers, when he was walking outside of his apartment with his girlfriend.
A third involved a masked stranger who shot and killed the cashier at the local 7-11 convenience store after midnight.
In my neighborhood about 10 years ago, there also was a gunfight between two rival teenage gangs who each were trying to control local drug sales.
They fired handguns at each other on the main business street at about 4 pm on a weekday afternoon, and fortunately they didn't kill anybody. But people on both sides were lousy shots, and a city bus driver was wounded by accident in the gunplay.
So I'm not "anti-gun" in general, but here in the city, I think legalizing handgun ownership is insane.
Gun-related crimes and actual murders have been bad enough here already, despite the fact that handgun ownership has traditionally been illegal in Washington DC.
But if every fool teenager with an attitude problem can buy a handgun legally and carry it around with him -- as a recent Supreme Court decision says is probably legal -- my neighborhood could become a battle zone, even more so than today.
I'm against that happening not because I'm "liberal," but because I'm afraid of getting shot by a would-be Billy the Kid on crack, or by another crazy serial killer targeting complete strangers at random, or by an armed career criminal.

I'm moderate liberal and I don't hate guns. Most of my family is full of hunters actually. There's more than 10 guns in their house for hunting. Locked up of course. Everyone has the right to own a gun in my opinion.

Its a 'well armed militia', not individual rights.
But I have two guns of my own, and I don't hate guns or gun ownership.
I can't agree with you though about it only applying to law abiding people, we do all agree that criminals don't care about any laws but that doesn't mean we don't have laws that tell what happens if you steal or kill just because they won't care.
Know how I got one of my guns? A law abiding fifteen year old boy tried to kill himself with it and his daddy didn't want it around the house anymore.
So he gave it to me.
To date I've only shot rats with it, and I don't eat them. I'm rather fond of supermarkets for my food.
But I'm fairly sure that if I get a rat, I'm not going to need an Uzi to bag a deer.
So I'm OK with guns, and I'm also OK with the laws that govern them, and I don't mind restrictions on who owns one, especially those with known mental problems, but no criminal records. They may be law abiding, but they are on a very short fuse.
I don't understand what the problem is, I register my dog, whats wrong with registering my gun?

We don't hate guns - we hate the over proliferation of weapons that this country is going through. It's become more likely that we will lose our ability to restrict guns from schools and our own homes than that any control will ever be put on ownership.
Gun laws and restrictions have become a joke - the gun lobby is one of the most powerful in the nation.

My response to any liberal democrat or any politician who wants my gun is if you really want it, come and get it and try to take it from my hands. I will make sure that ammo will be included!
