SHOULD THIS SECTION ACTUALLY BE NAMED "AVIATION"...INSTEAD OF "AIRCRAFT"? WHAT DO U THINK?

Update:

Aviation: ...the design, development, production, operation, and use of aircraft, especially heavier-than-air aircraft.

Update 2:

Aircraft: any form of craft designed for flight through or navigation in the air, as airplanes, dirigibles, balloons, helicopters, and gliders....

WHICH DO YOU THINK HAS A MORE BROADER MEANING TO MORE ACCURATELY ENCOMPASS (DESCRIBE) THIS SECTION?

Update 3:

Well, anything that would reduce the low-intellect questions...is awfully welcome. Some of the questions here just provide more ammunition to people's opinion why this site is a target of ridicule...and trolls.

Update 4:

@Yer D'thspicable...maybe so. Like your avatar; very apt....Sylvester nasty cat .

Update 5:

@Cherokeeflyer..thanks for the link. As top contributor in this section, you ought to really have first dibs to get this sector have a name change...esp. since the most common question here is "how do I become a pilot"...something more to do with aviation than anything else.

Update 6:

MrAUDU--brilliant idea. Only thing is Yahoo will never do that, though, Why? They want to keep the site mainstream, and they realize that knowledge on Yahoo! Answers is not very deep. one can see that the questions here are suboptimal at best for questions requiring factual answers.

Pity...

Update 7:

Here's another example why this section's name should be changed to 'AVIATION'...As anybody can see, this has nothing to do with aircraft in itself...

    I raised this question three years ago. I even followed up with the staff of Yahoo. The "canned" answer was something along the lines of that they would not be adding or changing any Categories or sections contained with in. I wish I had saved it, I would paste it for your review.

    Aviation would be a good name to be used for this section as it embraces the wider aspects of the world that is Aviation.

    You could then have subsections whereby people can give there advice about certain fields of Aviation, and there could be a specific section where through what medium all the Troll's could accrue together and provide each other with amalgamate information for their Flight Simulators at home whilst us chaps, who have some pretty decent information about Aviation can provide honest answers with the utmost truth and assiduity of our claims.

    I totally disagree with MrAUDU, if this section were to limit its users to licensed (certificated )pilots and did not allow student pilots or even aviation enthusiasts or the curious, it would be nothing but a bunch of arguing as to what is better, high wing or low wing, cessna vs piper, airbus vs, boeing etc. It would self implode in short order. You have to take the bad along with the good. .What I would rather see is volunteer Moderators that have demonstrated a level head, and a high level of knowledge (Like Cherokee, Ben Dare,Biz,etc.) (pilsner,warbird and jimmbo do NOT fit into this cat!!) with the ability to permanently ban the likes of MB, that punk kid MIKE, the Concorde impersonator etc.and the ability to zap inappropriate posts. The system in place leaves ALLOT to be desired

    In the past, I thought the same thing. I now believe no matter what you name it, you would get some of the same asinine questions. Changing the name might cull out some of the adolescent ignoramuses that do not know what aviation means,hard to say.

    Do you seriously think that changing the wording of this section would alter the quality of the questions and answers. That's some fantasy that you have working there.

    The trolls and the teenagers DON'T CARE what ANY section is called. They are going to go there and raise Hell anyway. You could rename this section FLIGHT DYNAMICS and not a damn thing would change.

    If there were someway to require a password that only allowed folks with a verifiable PPL certificate (as a minimum) to participate would be a great addition. It doubt that it will ever take place because it would necessitate someone at Yahoo to think and do something. I'm afraid that the site is going to be about as good as it will ever be (no matter what the name) as long as morons are allowed to have access to a computer.

    Maybe they ought to have a seperate section for Kamikaze black box chemtrails where only Delta 777 captains are allowed to post.

  • 1 decade ago

    aircraft = planes

    aviation = flying

  • 1 decade ago

    Based on most of the questions (kamikaze pilots, black boxes, anything by Mike Beech) I think "Stupid questions about flying" is more in order.

    To be honest I think "Aerospace" would fit better as it opens up the spectrum while limiting it to our professional knowledge.
