Do you think religion should prove their belief is correct?
I am doing a public study for school about how the scientific revolutions, starting with the Copernican sun centered model, has put religion (specifically Catholicism) on a defensive and reactive position to science in an attempt to continue its hold on power. My questions for you guys are this:
1) Do you believe that religion has relied on the circular argument that others have to prove their religion wrong instead of they themselves taking the responsibility to prove their religion correct?
2) Why does the Catholic church seem to adjust their understanding of scripture as science has recorded and validated the sun centered model up to the factual and peer rated fact of background radiation of the big bang
3) Do you believe that religion has felt under-sieged by science? If so what are your examples and exactly what has the church done in response.
4) If Prophets wrote some books of the bible and that some received the words from god, how come there is nothing in the Bible explaining any scientific explanation that is beyond the current scientific capability of the time but now known, measured and peer rated to be 100% factual, such as gravity, stars, the big bang, etc.

I think that people need to abandon their religions and create one that at least proves their belief is LOGICAL. I might not believe in it, but at least I would respect it.

unfortunately your question have to start with "Lets say that we all believe in what the bible says as true" unfortunately truth is a heavy word that carried with it the consequence of needed proof and verification. something that it cannot do in its current state.
1. yes because its much easier to be guilty until proven innocent, rather than innocent until proven guilty.
2. there are a few reasons for thus. bear in mind that these faiths were began in a time when science wasn't even a notion of an idea. it was merely what we could see around us. it made logical sense to them to say that natural law was actually gods miracles in an unseen world. once the evidence exist they must adapt or die. for fear of loosing face and followers they would have to adapt to this new indisputable evidence to support their ideas and beliefs.
3. each faith handles this differently. I have been told on occasion that i let my intelligence get in the way of my faith. is that a way of saying that they just want blind followers? maybe. but a great example is that some of the top scientist in earth actually work for the vatican. their entire purpose is to study such things and then try to find a way that it is supported by scripture.
4. they couldn't have spoken of this because it was written by man. think for a moment. if someone began writing a "bible" and amassed a following because they said that they could speak to God. today they would be considered insane. there wasn't a science of the mind during these times. for all we know they could have suffered from one of the hundreds of mental illnesses that we now know and have an understanding of. you also can't really ask this question without being forced to consider the counsel of Nicea. since they are the ones that actually made the bible what we know it as today. and since we know that according to the churches beliefs. man isn't perfect, therefore it had to be god speaking through man that would make his word perfect. considering thus we would have to assume that in order for the bible today to still be the true word of God, all the members of the counsel had to have God speaking to them and telling them what books or writings would go into the cannon. Then this would beg the question that since not all of the men were of the same faith, in fact some had no faith in a judea-christian god at all, then how did the same God speak to all of them? Logically we would have to say that since man isn't perfect, the bible isn't perfect. plain and simple.

No, not unless they try to push it on others, people should keep there faiths and beliefs to themselves unless they are specifically asked.
