Cat urination problem?

My three year old cat likes to urinate in the laundry room, on clothing. Why does he do this? His litter box is cleaned everyday, and I washed it out just last week. The wife wants to get rid of him. Help!

Update:

We've had him for two years.

Maybe you should try taking him to the litter box when he looks like he's about urinate in the laundry room or clothing. Keep an eye him of course, then take him to the litter box. Has he been doing this ever since you got him? What age did you get him, and where did you get him? If you just got him maybe he's not used to the atmosphere. If you got him at age 3 and if he was in a low maintenance shelter, he's probably not sure what to do with the litter box. So the best thing you could do is guide him towards the litter box, after he urinates in the litter box, give him a treat or somehow congratulate him.

Put an onion or a lemon (cats hate them ) on the laundry.

Watch out he doesn't go somewhere else though.
