Have you ever considered the unintended consequences of hatred?
It seems to me that all religions increasingly rely on hate speech to motivate thier masses. Be it crazy pastors in the US having burn the Koran days or Imans preaching about the evils of the West in Friday prayers. And sadly if its "our religious leaders" speaking it, too often we turn a blind eye. We are now seeing the sad consequences of that speech in Pakistan.
this hatred for people they have never met let SOME in Pakistan turn a blind eye to the harboring of mass murders (even when they slaughter more of their on than the object of their hatred) and now its keeping thousand around the world from helping people that are victims of a natural disaster. And we are all to blame. We have let people seeking power and or/wealth use religion and God/Allah not too do what he said...LOVE ONE ANOTHER, but hate. This is a natural disaster yes, but the tragedy that will continue to unfold because of our hate...that's man made and babies are dying while we argue about whose fault the state of the world is.
In the end it seems the only thing religion is succeeding in doing today is uniting us in our hatred. Let it go do what God actually told us to do...Love... even if its only for enough time for you to give to (a reputable charity) the people of Pakistan.

Absolutely one of the most insightful and intelligent questions I've seen on Answers in a long time.
Religion has become something to hide behind in order to defend your hatred of anyone who doesn't look or think like you do.
Imagine no religion....

I agree with most of what you said, though I don't agree with the sentiment that "all religions increasingly rely on hate speech to motivate thier masses". I don't think that statement is true at all. Most religions promote peace, love and tolerance. This is just another "religion is responsible for all the evils of the world question."
Evil and corrupt leaders of all types promote hate. In some cases religion is the tool. In other cases, it's race, ethnicity, or some other "difference" that is being exploited in order to control and manipulate. People who want money and power will use whatever method of control they can. Hate is an easy one.
By focusing on only a negative perspective of religion, you are also promoting hate. Hatred in any form never unites.

Personally I don't believe in god.
Personally I think I usually have been pretty healthy about anger and always striving for better!
Now for hatred:
Check out these military tactics that destroy the very essence of every human thing in you:
'Electronic Manipulation or Electronic Harassment (you'd never believe the technology)
Organized Stalking or Multiple Stalking
Brainwashing Tactics
Thought Reform Tactics
Psychological Warfare/ Mind Terror Attacks
Cyber Attacks
Intimidation
Sorry this is way bigger than a darn god debate but this is the best category to be in!

You said some wonderful stuff there.
I think the Western nations should be doing everything we can right now to help people in Pakistan, and I'm pleased that the US military is helping with evacuations and emergency supplies.
Actions speak louder than words. We have a chance to show people in Muslim nations that we do respect all human life. Let's go for it.

satan has control as you say above, but if we know Jesus he can keep us safe from these things. And judgment is happening, pakistan does not know Jesus/God and russia and china. All are being judged for turning from God, even the US. Look at new orleans, chicago, nashville and other disasters here.
If we follow God we can avoid being in one of these, but those who do not follow God are in his path.
take care.
Seek Jesus and understand this.
John 14:6-7 (New International Version)
6Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7If you really knew me, you would know[a] my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him."

" If people actually followed the lessons and morals outlined in the bible (& Qu'ran)" the world would be a MUCH MUCH worse place to live.
For the live of me, I don't know where theists get the idea that their Holy Texts and history are all about love and peace...
Apparently I'm the only person on earth that has actually READ THE DAMN BIBLE, let alone read it without preconceptions.
The bible states that it is OK to force a wife to have an abortion of the husband feels the fetus isn't his.
The bible states that god is a "Man of War".
The bible states that you should kill non-believers.
The few and far between messages of love and peace are far outstripped by the messages of evil, hate, slavery, rape, and even coprophagia!
The Qu'ran is full of pedophilia, hate, slavery, rape, and spousal abuse!!

Religion is being twisted by people who are using it as an excuse to hate. If people actually followed the lessons and morals outlined in the bible (Same goes for the Muslims... the extremists have horribly twisted their religious texts as well) there would be much less animosity floating around.

Love is the only thing I have tried to keep since becoming more atheistic. Each religion has to learn to sift through the crap and only keep the loving messages.

I John 3: 14-18 We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death. Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer; and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him. Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. But whoso hath this world's good and seeth his brother have need, and shuteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in Him? My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue, but in deed, and in truth.
Consequences to hatred is spiritual death, unless it is repented of, for the Scripture says that hatred is the same as murder. Pretty strong words, but true. We also have to watch what we say, for the power of life and death is in the tongue.
