1999 Chevy s10 ECM price?

So yeah, my car randomly decided to die as I entered the highway on the first day of classes. Anyway, we brought it to the shop and they think it has something to do with the ECM. They will look around for any broken cables, etc, whatever to isolate the problem.

Just how much would getting an ECM+installation cost on my '99 s10?

Update:

ah thank you Len. The mechanic did say one thing I should mention, and that is that the last ECM that he did cost $1500 with employee discount.

Update 2:

we will get a second and maybe even a third opinion on it anyway, but I do know that electrical components in cars are not cheap.

You may be out $300-$500 for a new ECM. A used one or rebuilt if they are available will be much cheaper. The rest will depend on the time doing diagnostics.

Whoa $1500!!. Get a used one at" U Pull it " or somewhere like that. I would look for another mechanic. This guy seems to be too expensive.
