Window a/c coil icing up?
Bought a whirlpool 10,000btu 115v window air conditioner at a moving sale a couple of weeks ago. Just now installed it. It will run and cool for about 1 hour and then the front coils/fins will ice up restricting the air flow. Was supposed to be in good condition. It appears to be clean and good condition. A freon problem?

If it is clean and the coils are clean, then make sure the fan moving the air over the front coil (evaporator) is running and actually moving air, and the fan moving ir over te rear coil is also working properly and moving air. If all is good then the freon gas is probably low. Window A/C units traditionally don't have fittings installed to add gas, so this would be a job for a service technician.

It may be clean on the outside but I can almost guarantee you would be surprised at the inside.
Take the thing out and set it on the tailgate of a pickup. Take the screws out and peel the skin, then very liberally spray the inner evaporator & condenser coils with something like scrubbing bubbles or Clorox Cleanup. -a light body long bristle brush works very well. (a brand new dollar store toilet brush) Then rinse very well with a water hose and watch the gunk flow away....
Allow dry in direct sunlight for about an hour, replace skin, re-install,..... enjoy.
If it still freezes it has a refrigerant issue. It can be fixed by most any credible a/c guy.

NO,.... with window instruments its particularly much consistently a cleanliness/airflow difficulty. The clear out being clean would not advise it somewhat is clean. Window instruments, like fridges particularly much under no circumstances, ever leak refrigerant.... (builders could stick to hammers & nails) Take the issue out of the window. Set it on the tailgate of a pickup truck. Take some screws out and peel the exterior. -seem interior. Yeah, cruddy. this is probably not a calming job. cope with it. you are going to be able to could desire to take some screws out of a bracket or 2 to benefit finished get admission to to the backside of the two coils. Use a heavy accountability purifier like Clorox Cleanup and Kaboom foaming purifier and a clean greenback keep rest room brush to get the crud out from in the back of the two coils. Get the two followers and the styro-foam "ductwork". The clorox will additionally kill any allergens and make the issue scent lots greater constructive.. Rinse very liberally with a sprig nozzle on a water hose until the water runs clean. replace brackets, screws, and pores and skin. Re-deploy in window with the right drainage fall,.... shop the return air clear out clean. I assure the unit to artwork like new. relish your summer season.

if the fan and coils are clean, and the filter if there is still one there, you should have good air flow and the refrigerant being low would most likely be the cause. when it runs the big line gets cold, the little one hot. do they?

sounds as though the size to work properly is inadequate , so working too long causes it to freeze.
Try shutting it off periodically to give at a rest.
