Can a computer monitor carry viruses?

I have an old monitor and my mom let me use a newer one from a computer that crashed because my brother was looking up porn on the internet. After using it for only one day I've had to change back to my old monitor because porn stuff keeps popping up. How could this be happening? Is there some way the images could have been stored on the monitor? Or is it possible for a monitor to carry viruses?

Update:

My brother is an adult, and does not live in the area any more, so he hasn't used my computer at all...I've never had this problem before that's why it seems the two are related.

    No and no.

Monitors are not affected by viruses, they just display what the computer sends them.

I would be tempted to suspect that your brother has used your computer since his has crashed.

EDIT: It's simply just not possible. Monitors don't have access to files, they strictly receive synchronization (vertical and horizontal) and color signals.

No, monitors just display stuff, they don't keep any memory. Probably your brother is just sneaking in and looking at porn on your computer since he crashed his. Set yourself up a user name and password, and lock the computer when you walk away.

Edit: To check if he's been using your computer, look at the browsing history. You should be able to follow it back and see if there have been porn sites visited while you were away. If they're not there that doesn't necessarily tell you he hasn't been sneaking in -- new versions of most browsers have a mode that won't record history, also it's possible to delete history -- but if he's stupid enough to be downloading viruses he's probably not on the ball about deleting his history either.

Also. Someone should have a talk with your brother about porn, and how it's fantasy and not the same as real life. If he hasn't gotten legit sex education, he shouldn't be getting it from porn. For his own sake and for the sake of anyone else he has sex with in the future.

Billy is right it is not possible for a monitor to store a virus. The monitor will only display what it is being told to display on the screen by the computer. The only place on the computer that a virus can live is the hard drive. A virus can infect your computers RAM but that memory is erased every time you shut down or reboot the computer.

Your monitor will not get effected by viruses because the monitor only displays images. No files ca nbe sent to your monitor. Monitors may not be capatible with a videocard or mother board or operateing system. No viruses just settings with a monitor.

Monitors do not store information. There is no way for it to cause a virus. It is the computer that has the virus.
