Computer Proxy Server Help?

About a month ago my computer came up with a pop-up saying my computer was being invaded by some virus worm thing, and to download this free anti virus now to get rid of it. Last time it did that I said yes, and it turns out that the "antivirus" really is a virus and I had to wipe my computer. This time I decided to be smart or so I thought. I told the popup to go away and kept closing the pop up every time it came up and instead activated a 60 day trial of Norton Antivirus. Apparently Norton activated a proxy server thing whatever that is and now I can't access the internet. I am able to access firefox because I googled it on another computer and it told me how I could get fire fox to go around it. But all other internet things won't work, internet, explorer, firefox, iTunes story, Yahoo Instant Messenger, and Yahoo can't attach my essays for school for me to e-mail them to myself. Basically I need to figure out how to get rid of this proxy server whatever it is. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Common behavior of a rough antivirus. Follow these steps to remove it.

    1) On a DIFFERENT computer, download Malwarebytes (malwarebytes.org) onto a flash drive. (because this is an on-demand scanner, not an antivirus, this will not conflict with any other antivirus programs you have)

    2) On the infected computer, turn it on, and immediately after pressing the power button, hold f8.

    3) Use the arrow keys to select "safe mode'. Press "enter".

    4) Log in as administrator (no password).

    5) Put in the flash drive, install Malwarebytes. After the install, run a full scan with each. They should most likely detect the virus and delete it.

    6) Now that the virus is gone, you need to prevent yourself from getting new viruses. I would not recommend using Norton, you can use free software. According to the latest consumer reports, Avira is the best free antivirus software. You can download it form avira.com.

Good luck and message me with any questions.
