Why do Christians say Hitler was an atheist?

It has been stated here time and again that Hitler was an atheist

Although it proves nothing, even if he was, why are Christians so adamant in denying this. Look at the evidence:

Adolf Hitler, in Mein Kampf, "... I am convinced that I am acting as the agent of our Creator. By fighting off the Jews. I am doing the Lord's work."

Adolf Hitler to General Gerhart Engel: "I am now as before a Catholic and will always remain so."

Hitler Biographer John Toland: "Still a member in good standing of the Church of Rome despite the detestation of its hierarchy, he carried within him its teaching that the Jews was the killer of god. The extermination, therefore, could be done without a twinge of conscience since he was merely acting as the avenging hand of god. ..."

Soldiers of the vermacht wore belt buckles inscribed with the following: "Gott mit uns" (God is with us).

His troops were often sprinkled with holy water by the priests.

What more evidence could there POSSIBLY be that Hitler was a devout Christian?

Can this be put to bed now?

Pigeon Pie: Well, first, I kind of hate you.

Second: That's the biggest load of sh!t I've ever heard.

Ever heard of suicide bombers? Crusades? KKK?

    All religious.

Just shut up and learn some facts.

(Sorry that this has nothing to do with your question, mate. I just felt like it needed to be said. Hitler made both Atheistic and religious remarks, so we can't really know, though it's rather likely he was a non-believer. Still, his atheism contributed nothing to his actions, and many more violent acts have been made in the name of god and religion.)

<<Why do Christians say Hitler was an atheist? It has been stated here time and again that Hitler was an atheist Although it proves nothing, even if he was, why are Christians so adamant in denying this.>>

Yeah, right! You can't have your cake and eat it too.

If Hitler being an atheist "proves nothing", then Hitler having been Christian "proves nothing either"!

<<Look at the evidence: Adolf Hitler, in Mein Kampf, "... I am convinced that I am acting as the agent of our Creator. By fighting off the Jews. I am doing the Lord's work.">>

Christian theology is NOT anti-semitic. You don't seem to know the first thing about politics. Hitler is PRETENDING to give a care ab out Faith because most German citizens were people of Faith.

<<Adolf Hitler to General Gerhart Engel: "I am now as before a Catholic and will always remain so.">>

If Hitler really was, logically, he would not have felt the need to make the claim. Evidently, his Catholicity was being called into question by someone.

<<Hitler Biographer John Toland: "Still a member in good standing of the Church of Rome despite the detestation of its hierarchy, he carried within him its teaching that the Jews was the killer of god. The extermination, therefore, could be done without a twinge of conscience since he was merely acting as the avenging hand of god. ...">>

Hitler's biographer has a vested interest in portraying Hitler in the most positive light.

Too bad a biographer doesn't have the Authority to proclaim one a proper Christian

Also, anti-antisemitism is NOT an element of Catholic Dogma.

<< Soldiers of the vermacht wore belt buckles inscribed with the following: "Gott mit uns" (God is with us).>>

So? It takes more than a freaking belt buckle for God to REALLY be with someone!

<<His troops were often sprinkled with holy water by the priests.>>

It's customary for soldiers with Faith to receive a blessing before going off to battle. Entire units often receive General Absolution before battle. This is not uncommon.

<<What more evidence could there POSSIBLY be that Hitler was a devout Christian?>>

What? You haven't provided ANY evidence yet!

<<Can this be put to bed now?>>

It takes someone who knows what he's talking about to put an issue to bed. You are so NOT that person!

I never said he was an atheist. Only those who are uneducated have ever said that he was an atheist. Hitler was HARDLY "devout". He liked to think that he was, but he wasn't at all. He didn't take his Catholic faith seriously - obviously, as the Church teaches that our religious heritage is Jewish, and we believe in loving our neighbors, not killing them. He also mixed pagan beliefs and practices into his faith. The swastika is a pagan symbol, not Christian, as it is a broken cross. He performed many pagan rituals prior to his campaigns. He also put many Catholics, including many priests, to death in his death camps, and was even going to arrest and execute the Pope, but one of his generals talked him out of it.

And as for what Toland said, that had to be before WWII, because he was NOT in good standing with the Church when he became dictator and began to take over the world.

"The only religion I respect is Islam. The only prophet I admire is the Prophet Muhammad." (Hitler, quoted by Ahmed Huber; Kevin Coogan, "The mysterious Achmed Huber: Friend to Hitler

Despite his affinity for Islam, Hitler was actually a devout atheist.

“..In boundless love as a Muslim and as a man, I read through the passage which tells us how Allah at last rose in his might and seized the scourge to drive out the temple of the brood of vipers and adders..”

    - Adolph Hitler 14October1941

Hitler said that the conquering Arabs, because of their racial inferiority, would in the long run have been unable to contend with the harsher climate and conditions of the country. They could not have kept down the more vigorous natives, so that ultimately not Arabs but Islamized Germans could have stood at the head of this Mohammedan Empire."

    — Albert Speer

"According to Speer, Hitler stated in private, "The Mohammedan religion too would have been much more compatible to us than Christianity. Why did it have to be Christianity with its meekness and flabbiness?"

    He was born Catholic FACT

He was heavily into the occult FACT

    Atheism =/= Occult FACT

Besides he was an individual, individuals do not represent an entire demographic.

If you wanted to do that Martin Luther was the man that started the initial anti-semetic resentment in Germany, he is also one of the biggest forefunners of the protestant reformation (which is what evangelical and born again Christianity is a part of).

I don't say he was an atheist; I say he was a pagan.

"It was not long after his coming to power that the churches found

themselves at war with Hitler and his regime when they discovered that what

he aimed at was no less than the substitution of a pagan German god for

Christ." -- New York Times, May 2, 1945

"In Germany last week nothing was clearer than that Realmleader Hitler either cannot or will not cause Nazis to desist from their attack upon Jesus Christ." -- Time magazine, September 3, 1934

They like to blame us. But Christians KNOW that Mel Gibson is a burden on them, I feel they'll gang up on him like they did with Hitler and then say Mel was an atheist.

It doesn't matter what he claimed to be, his actions define who he is.

Was Hitler a Christian? No one doubts that he was born to a Catholic family. Did Hitler practise Catholicism? No.

There is a difference between what one is, and what one does. People are judged by their actions, not their thoughts.

    Out of ignorance.

Quite simply, because they don't want to believe that he was one of their own.
