Math problem I need help......?

ok here's the problem. "A rancher decides to enclose a rectangular region by using an existing fence along one side of the region and 2240 ft. of new fence on the other three sides. The rancher wants the length of the rectangular region to be five times as long as the width. that will the dimensions of the rectangulat region be?

    L = 5W

    2W + L = 2240

    Assuming that the existing fence will be along the length of the rectangle.

    Substitute...

    2W + 5W = 2240

    7W = 2240

    W = 320 ft <============

    L = 5(320) = 1600 ft <===============

    a + 2b = 2240

    a = 5b
