I paid about $80 so far for my son in 2nd grade. I got 3 pairs of jeans at Old Navy ($10 each on sale), new tennis shoes at Wal-Mart which look really cute for only $10, new book bag which was $15, crayons...pencil box...notebook...etc. which the teacher is providing so now its all to use at home. I found some really cool Transformers tennis shoes at K-Mart on clearance for $3 a few months back so I bought a couple pairs in different sizes and now they fit great. We didn't get any new shirts but he already has about 40 shirts....not exaggerating lol. I get alot of hand me downs from my sister's kids.
Some of the clothes I bought him are too big right now but for $10 jeans...they'll fit by Christmas and probably won't be that cheap again. Especially since the $2.99 clearance jeans from Children's Place clearance still fit from last year. I like to get him a new book bag every year. I know most parents think its a waste of money but I buy the cheap ones with whatever his favorite movie/cartoon is and he's happy. I couldn't talk him out of wanting the Pittsburgh Pirates book bag this year...I had to swallow my tongue and let him get it lol.

I have a 4th grader and I'm going to estimate the cost of it all so far to be about $200.
2 pairs of shoes
1 back pack
4 sets of uniforms
The rest are miscellaneous school items. We try to only make the necessary purchases since there are things that we can hold off until later in the year.

Elementary age, about $100, not including fall clothes. That includes a new backpack and lunch box (the old ones were 4 years old), new tennis shoes for gym, and the supplies on the teacher supply list.
