Hockey in Germany is gaining popularity and we are seeing some resurgence of NHL players coming out of the country. This includes current NHLers Jochen Hecht, Marcel Goc, Christian Ehrhoff, Thomas Greiss, Dennis Seidenberg, and Marco Sturm. Also, prospects such as Marcel Mueller and Korbinian Holzer have signed NHL contracts and could make the NHL sometime in the next two years.

The German Ice Hockey League or the Deutsche Eishockey Liga is the highest level of professional ice hockey in the country. The most recent champion is the Hannover Scorpions. Ice Hockey as a sport is pretty popular in Germany although is far behind soccer in that regard.

Germany has the DEL (Deutsche Eishockey Liga), but I don't know any teams off the top of my head- my guess is Berlin is favoured?. But there are some decent German players in the NHL: Marcel Goc, Marco Sturm, Thomas Greiss, Dennis Seidenberg, Christian Ehrhoff, Jochen Hecht.

I don't know of any German teams, and the only professional German player I know of is Marco Sturm. I guess Heatley was born in Germany, but he's a Canadian citizen.
