Haven't bothered looking at the links but I heard this on the news. They said that Scientists have proved that it was not a fluke and that any player could accomplish the same feat if they we're further enough away from the goal and hit the ball with enough power. I'd also say it was an incredible achievement, maybe it didn't happen exactly how he planned it but i imagine he probably meant to do something similar. We've all done shots like that in different games, sports, i'm sure we've all achieved something which seemed impossible at the time

Q1: I always wondered. I get the feeling it's the ball's doing and the wind velocity. We should find the standard deviation of the speed of the ball and the wind and divide it by the average mean percentage of how many times can this ever happen then divide that and I just lost myself.... o.O
I think it was luck or the ball's doing. The WC futbol balls alwayd end up doing some weird stuff
Q2: Come on I don't think he has a college degree in Physics and studied in one of the most prestigious universities in Brasil....Roberto Carlos PhD. in Physics damm i can't see that. I can't even see him graduating from high school. but then again i wouldnt know....

q1. it was incredible...if it wasn't then why is he considered as one of the greatest left backs in football history?
q2.I think R.Carlos is an intelligent player. I didn't think he just blasted the ball. He must've trained a lot and adjust his shot to flow with the wind velocity and i remember when he played in rain, he always has low shots so that, with his gifted power, the ball would slide and move quickly.

Roberto Carlos, a legend! No one hits a freekick like he does! Pure magic or should I say "Braziliance" haha
q1 - INCREDIBLE!
q2 - No its just skills

One of them was a fluke, I guess the one where he was directly on the side of the goal and curved it in it was probably wind, but the free-kick against France he probably meant to do it
