Internet Explorer temporary files?

I use Mozilla Firefox as my primary internet browser, and never use IE unless I need to for whatever reason...

I regularly use a program called CCleaner (which I recommend) and when I use it, there is always some IE temporary files to be deleted. Why are they there when I never use IE?

IE is used for other functions in Windows besides browsing - it's the reason you can't "uninstall" IE anymore. It's nothing to worry about, just part of the joy that in Windows.

Windows Update and any Windows application that connects to the internet use IE. Most non-Windows programs also use IE to update or check for updates.
