Toyota knuckle leak/goop/gunk?

I bought a 1985 toyota pickup 4x4 sr5 xcab and so far i've been doing some work to it these past couple of days. I was looking at the front disc brakes, the inner wheels and the knuckle joints....and it is filthy. The rear of the knuckles are covered in wet, black goop. obviously this leak is coming from the knuckle but where, and why? most likely a crap gasket but since i've never done work to knuckles or toyotas for that matter, i'm a little on the beginning side when it comes to their suspension. The right front drips slightly (covered in goop) the left front doesnt really drip but is still nonetheless covered in black goop. You can even see it staining the inside of the tire. Whats wrong with it, and what should i do?

bearing gresse or your axel boot is toen,or was and never cleaned, other than bearing grees there is no grease that can leak out from a knuckle,,or wait,if your caliper piston seal is leaking it can fall on the knuckel

The inner axle seals are leaking gear oil into the knuckle housing, which are packed with grease. The knuckles will need to be disassembled and cleaned/repacked with new grease as well as the birfield joints on the axles. And the inner axle seals will need to be replaced. Be sure the outer axle retaining clip is in place or this will cause the axle to move to far inward and damage the inner axle seals.
