Hand cranking a 1948 Dodge pickup?

I know the place to insert a hand crank was there, but I have never actually seen a hand crank that is correct for these vehicles. Could they actually be started with a hand crank, or is this a left over vestige from the old W-Series trucks? If they can be started in this manner, where can I find the correct hand crank?

They can indeed be cranked by hand. You probably won't be able to find an original, but a good shop can make one for you. A lot of vehicles carried over the crank hole, but did not have the crank burr on the end of the crankshaft. That may be even harder to find.
