I busted my lip late last week, still lots of pain and occasional bleeding....what to do?

Very funny story to what happened here. My son woke up at 5:45 am screaming so I put him in our bed and he went back to sleep instantly. Around 6 am after I've gotten comfortable again and halfway asleep again, he decides to sit up and slam his head into my mouth, holler for 2 seconds, and go back to sleep. My bottom teeth went through my lip a little, and it bled a lot. I got a cold towel and applied pressure to stop the pain and bleeding. I thought I might need stitches since it bled sooo much. Then I got a bag of ice to help with the healing until I just fell back asleep. That was early Friday morning. It is now Tuesday night and I'm still in pain. Everything I eat burns and my lips stay chapped so if I don't keep my mouth open, my lips stick together which is just bad! And every now and then my bottom teeth wil graze or hit it and it will start bleeding again. I use vaseline to help a little and I heard salt water will help it heal faster but I really need some relief. Should I go to my family doctor or a dentist to get help? I would've went sooner but I been working and watching my kids all week! What's best to do?

Unfortunately it can not be sutured at this point. You need to figure something out to protect it to let it heal. It is in a hard place to protect that is for sure. You may have to eat liquids only for a few days, try dental wax over your teeth to protect the cut, rinsing with dilute salt water won't heal it faster, it just rinses it out for cleaning. Possibly putting a small gauze roll between your lip & your teeth may help as well.
