Let me rephrase the question, what creates more taxes and regulated you more, local or federal government?

    It's state-dependent.

In NJ, there are 566 municipalities...almost 100 more than what California has. So obviously, in NJ, our local governments are just killing us.

On the federal level however, sweeping decisions are made on a 320,000,000 person basis and rarely help the country as a whole.

Hmmmm. In my life, I am definitely more regulated by local government. But I guess that is the way it should be.

    Very good question.

Without giving it to much that, the taxation is pretty close to equal. Regulations, not sure.

Local. The winds of change are giving the feds a foothold, however.

I moved outside the city limits of my town. Too much zoning, property taxes, etc. etc. etc.
