Can you get a ticket if another driver reports you to the police, but the cops didn't see anything happen?
What happened was I was driving, I moved over to the left lane and a car in the left lane honked at me (even though she was about 150 back), I then stuck out my middle finger out the window and held it there. I saw her write down my plate number, and car description, etc. (I also got hers).
If she calls the cops and gives this to them, can the cops do anything about it? Even though they wouldn't have seen the act (if I did anything illegal)?
Little more info...
This was in NY state
Also, all responses will get a thumbs up from me.

No, the police can not write you a ticket from a statement or phone call from another driver.

No experience with this, yet my guess is confident a cop can take transport of a rushing value ticket mutually as no longer on accountability. An on accountability cop probable does no longer take transport of a cost ticket. I seem to undergo in recommendations examining a information tale as quickly as a pair of cop who became into off accountability and became into given a cost ticket, became irate with the arresting officer, and have been given in deeper complication.

I would be more worried that the driver could lie and said you were driving like you were drunk, flashed a gun(that happened to someone I knew)
Never flip anyone off as you don't know if they are a nut case and could chase you down for a face to face confrontation.

No, if she is a citizen she would have to had contacted the police while in your presence, have an officer come to the location, and have the officer make their own case for you by finding probable cause to make a stop. If the driver is an off-duty police officer, however, they could issue you a citation and mail it to your address.

nah! your fine. if you feel insacure about it then call the cops on the other driver. But it sounds like the other driver was displaying road rage and could have caused an acident. So I think your fine. If you want to report it or not thats more up to you.

If your name came up to often at this. They could consider it road rage. And request you be retested to drive. Rarely has happened.
