My first baby was 3 weeks early. I started to feel horrible the week before I went into hard labour - my back hurt and I was extremely nauseous. A few days later I lost my mucous plug, but still thought I would go at least another week or so. My back was hurting, it would come and go. My baby was posterior so I had back labour and no I did not know it was labour. I was at work and by the time I got home my contractions were about 15 minutes apart. I still didn't know it was labour until I spoke to my friend who is a nurse. By 11 that night, I was in full blown labour and my baby was born at noon the next day.
With my second baby, I had false labour twice. It started, lasted for hours, and then just suddenly stopped. so when I went into real labour, I thought it might be false labour again. My midwife did a membrane sweep the day before my due date. I went into labour 45 minutes later. I had contractions all afternoon and evening. Around 10pm it started to intensify and I knew it was the real thing. We went to the hospital at 2:30am and my baby was born at 5am.

With my first son, I felt random contractions for about a week before I went into labor. They'd come every hour or so. But the night I went into labor, I was trying to go to sleep when I had a contraction. Then another five minutes later. Then another five minutes after that. And every five minutes for an hour. That's when I realized it was true labor and we headed to the hospital. My son was born 5 1/2 hours later. The same thing happened with my second child. I had no contractions and then suddenly I was having consistent contractions 5 minutes apart for an hour so we headed to the hospital. My son was born 4 1/2 hours later.

My contractions started and I had a show. I didn't have any signs leading up to labour at all. Contractions pretty much were regular from the beginning and about 5 minutes apart. They were painful but I could talk through them.

I was 40 +5 and it just felt different to BH, I started labour at 7am, it wasn't until 5pm (after going shopping and out for lunch) that I told my OH, it was pretty bearable until then. I guess I knew mainly because I was already passed my DD.
