Taskbar doesn't show icons and crashes a lot?

Hey,

I'm running windows vista and as stated in the title, my taskbar doesn't show any icons besides the volume, internet, and battery life. If I move my cursor to the left and over where some icons should be, the name of the app thats supposed to be there pops up. I click on it, and it brings up the app like normal. Another problem I have with the taskbar is that it will crash a lot at times and give me an error message.

Anyone got a easy fix?

    I don't know about easy...but I have a few possible solutions

Try opening your command prompt Run>cmd>once it's open, type sfc /scannow

This will scan for damaged core windows files, once it's running follow the instructions it gives.

Another possible option is try going ctrl+alt+delete>task manager (certain windows versions)>> then go to processes at the top, find Explorer.exe, right click it, end process. this should kill your desktop/icons all that, after that is dead go to the top, file, new, type explorer.exe this should bring your desktop back into action and may possibly fix the problems
