My cat has a bad attitude?

When I get up and move around the house he meows and runs to his bowl to be fed, If I ignore him he gets angry and immediately attacks me from behind wrapping his front paws around my ankle and biting. Today he was even bolder and attacked me front on biting and scratching my ankle. He wants me to feed him every time I get up. It was funny at first but now its getting to be a problem, how can I discipline a cat?????? I tried running at him before he had a chance to attack, wetting him with a water pistol lol funny but not working. He isn't hungry, has not got worms, he is healthy, so whats up with him and yes he is de sexed, If there any ideas I would appreciate them.

He is playing with you. The best way I've corrected rough play / biting behavior is by startling them with a "hiss" or high pitched squeal and telling them no. When you see him coming to attack, freeze and say no. This can take 2 times or 100 times. If you feed a mix of dry and wet food, leave him enough dry food to last through the night. Try not feeding him when you first wake up - he is used to the routine, but he'll get used to a new one. Also, play with a feather toy or another toy that he can burn some energy chasing around (but redirect his predator instinct to the toy) - it sounds like he is very high energy. I hope these ideas help.

I leave dry food out all day. Maybe he is not getting enough to eat. Are you sure he is not hungry, my cats nibble all day long a couple of bites here and there. I have always left out dry food and have been doing so for over 20 years. No fat cats either, not one of the cats any of them attacking my ankles or legs.

You cannot discipline a cat, they are not dogs. Cats are very picky creatures, they like to have food at all times, my cat is very vocal when her bowl becomes empty, even though they dont eat constantly they do not like when the bowl is empty. Often times my cat will make allot of noise when the bowl is empty, the minute its full she will look at it and walk away. Just keep the bowl full or get a feeder.

Well, that's not a bad attitude! He's trying to play with you! Buy him a toy such as a catnip mouse or a feather on a string, and next time he comes at you use the toy to distract him. Also, you can spray or rub something nasty-tasting on your ankle to teach him that ankle-biting is not worth the aftertaste! XD

You can't discipline a cat. They have no idea what the discipline is for. It sounds to me as if you're not feeding your cat enough. Keep some kibble in his bowl at all times.

hi Snakelady, should pearlmar's advice fail,

a tap on the snout and a firm NO may ease your pain lol...

but do always leave him nibblies, cats are browsers.
