Turtle (RES) with respiratory infection?

My turtle has a respiratory infection (confirmed by my vet). I took him to the vet about 2 weeks ago. The vet seemed to think he was pretty healthy (minus the R.I.). The vet told me to isolate him from my other turtle in a water-free cage. I put him in another cage with water though once or twice a day for him to drink/try to eat. He's also been on Baytril injections. I just ended w/ the injections 2 days ago. He's still not very active and has no interest in eating. He'll sometimes take some of this vitamin A supplement that the vet gave me orally w/ a needle free syringe. Once in a while he'll also take some food that way (diluded turtle food in warm water). He seems a little better then when I first took him in. His breathing doesn't seem as bad. I'm still concerned. The vet seemed to think he'd recover sooner. I really don't want to reschedule a visit because the first one was really expensive as it was. Any advice? Am I doing anything wrong? Should he still be kept out of water? Should he be healthy by now? etc...

Hopefully you are keeping him really warm. Both air and water temps. The Baytril injections frequently decrease appetite. Definitely take him back to the vet...it can take several weeks for him to get better. Reptiles, because of their lower body temps, heal very slowly. They absorb and metabolize medications slowly. The links above offer good advice.

RI's are not contagious, but it is a good idea to separate him so he does not get stressed and sicker and weaker. I had a russian who had an RI and she was on medication for 2 months and she still took a while before she was back to full health, the antibiotics are also usually not the best thing to perk up their appetite, I had to force feed hee for months she is now healthy, I would suggest another visit so the vet can check it out and see if another round of medications are in order.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but he's gonna have to go back to the vet. He should have been a lot better within 72 hours of starting the medication. Not all antibiotics work on all types of germs. He may need a different antibiotic.
