How many weeks will Goddard get for concussing Picken?

In 1977 Collingwood's Carman was suspended 2 weeks, and missed the Grand Final for chopping the arm of Tuck, Hawthorn. In 2002 J Cloke Collingwood was suspended and missed the Grand Final for a hit to Edwards of Adelaide, requiring 3 stiches on his nose scratch. In 2003 Rocca Collingwood missed the Grand Final for a hip and shoulder bump, claimed to be an elbow, on Lade of Pt Adelaide, who didnt fall and wasn't injured. Goddard belted Picken who was listed in Sunday papers as having concussion, a head injury ? The Collingwood players suspended from Grand Finals did not inflict a concussion injury on their opponnents. Goddard should at least get 3 weeks.

Update:

Goddard wasn't reported by an umpire, but has to be cited by the review panel, if not, the AFL system is a Joke .

The AFL tribunal system is a "JOKE"...we all know that.

But, the incident you're talking about..is not worth talking about. So I see no reason why it should be reported in the first place, let alone, picked up on video evidence. No case to answer for...in my books.

The Cloke suspension still sticks in my mind even though I was about 12 at the time. Eyes for the ball and hit the player (Edwards?) in the head, was an accident. The AFL ordered his player page removed from all the AFL Records sold at the MCG on Grand Final day because he showed up and obviously said something they didn't agree with. When Thomas hit that player the other night whoever was commentating, I'm not sure who, actually said "The AFL is a bit more lenient one week out from the Grand Final." Yep inconsistent, hypocritical bullshit. Goddard should've atleast been cited.

Hahaha! He won't get any! This is a week out from the grand final (and Goddard doesn't play for Collingwood).

Remember when Leigh Brown got suspended against Adelaide? The incident with Goddard was worse. He actually looked behind him and elbowed the player in the face. Leigh Brown was off balance when he backhanded Johncock and he copped a week. They deemed Brown's actions reckless, and even though Johncock wasn't injured, Brown was suspended for a week. If Picken was indeed concussed, I'd like to see the explanation of Goddard getting off (if it's even assessed!). People want MRP consistency, but not when it's so close to a granny.

I don't really care if he plays or not, but I do believe in consistency.

Goddard's two elbows to Picken's head drew a free against him, and the umpire should lower his head for not reporting him. He should get at least four games for it, as it was nothing short of thuggery. The saints got away with quite a few similar incidents on saturday night. I personally am more worried about Thomas' incident. The guy had his head down over the ball and the cat dived under him. However the rule is there so for me I have an anxious wait with that one. If he gets suspended. then the AFL needs to just completely adopt netball rules and get on with it. cheers

Didn't Podsiadly miss two games with a similar bump as Dal Santo's? As for Thomas, he went hard at the ball and bumped into Taylor's shoulder more than the head. Taylor, being a Geelong player, flung his arms back and dramatised the whole thing.

I don't expect Goddard to miss the grand final.

Did you even watch the incident??

No way on earth should that be reported. Picken was all over him and Goddard was just trying to break free to get a clean attempt at the mark. Yes it was rightly a free kick because he did catch him high, but a report is just laughable.

Dale Thomas to be reported for head high contact, medium impact if not the AFL system is a Joke. Two games at least, 1 on early guilty plea.

To be honest I saw nothing wrong with either incident.

Steven baker. did time this year that he shouldn't have. 9 weeks i think. where it should have been 4 weeks. because of this. i cant see Goddard being cited at all. they will have to try and even it up somewhere. so heres their opportunity.

  • Conspiracy? Goddard wasn't even mentioned in this article.

None. Typical question and comment coming from a Collingwood supporter who only sees black & white.
