How long to lay slate tile for small hearth and wall cover?

I have 12 x 12 slate tiles, slightly uneven in thickness. I need about 15 square feet of tile on the floor to put a wood stove on, and another 40 square feet on the wall behind it, in an L shape. The tiles have to be cut around the stovepipe in the wall. There is some fake brick stuff on the wall to remove first, put down tile backer, then tiles and grout and trim edges with 1/4 round. This sounds like a smallish job to me, but tile guy says 4 days, $30/hr. Is that too much? How long should it take?

Update 2:

He quoted $960 total = 4 full days. I think I could do it myself in 4 days...

First you never pay a flooring person by the hr. Always by the s/f. This type of job can be done in a day and a half. A regular tile guy will bump up the s/f price a bit ( just a bit) to compensate for the extra cutting and such for a small job. The walls can done 1st and then the floor if they know what they re doing. Any odd pcs set the next day and the whole job grouted.

The slate must be sealed prior to installation but that can be done by you or the tile guy. It can dry as he/she is unloading the truck and prepping any part of the job.

I ve done plenty of jobs in the past similar to this and its all in the planning and experience.

It will take four days im sure. Because you have to let floor dry overnight, then wall dry overnight before you can grout it or get on it. However, at least two of the days should be just a few hours. I don't see why any of them should be 8 hrs.
