Pipe Welder - Relationship?

My bf (8 months now) is a Pipe Welder by trade (for 20 years). He is normally a journeyman. He has been unable to find permanent work to remain close to me. He is going to accept a job that will bring him home on weekends. He has told me that sometimes, the journeyman job requires him to be away for months at a time without coming home. If there is anyone who has a journeyman bf/husband, I really need some advice/words of encouragement. Thanks!

I worked as a field engineer for many years and then as a project engineer also. That meant I spent a great deal of time away from home. During that time I worked with thousands of electricians, carpenters, pipe fitter, welders, riggers and other construction workers. These people have to go where the work is. I had to do the same.

In all of those thousands of workers there were the same people you meet everyday. Most were the salt of the earth and as moral and ethical as anyone would ask for. There were of course some with the morals of a billy goat. My experience tells me that most people behave the same away from home as they do when they are at home.

I will say one final thing. With all of that traveling and time away from home my wife and I always maintained our relationship. We celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary just last week.
