Do you agree that India "bribed" to host Common Wealth Games?

Today I have to gone through an article in a Tamil Daily "Dinathanthi" in which there was a news item saying that India bribed Rs.40 crores to host Common Wealth Games.

There were two final contestants i.e., Canada and India and to vote for it, India bribed Rs.40 crores to the other member countries by the way of offering training facilities etc.

This has been revealed by an Australian Daily "The Daily Telegraph". As Australia has already decided to support India, there was no need for them to accept India's bribe.

May I know your comments on this matter???

For bribing such a huge amount(which comes from the tax payer's money) to 72 nations i.e. 72 X Rs.40 crores= Rs. 2880 crores, a bill needs to be passed in the Parliament. And its just a stupid thinking that the govt. have passed such bill in the parliament. It is nothing than a xenophobic journalism and sensationalism of the already existing chaos. Can someone ask the newspaper about their basis of their report?

Baseless report. India is not a rich country to spend much on bribing others. For our politicians bribe is one-way only, that is accept not giving.

The report reads Hamilton, Canada offered $70,000/- for each country .

will the Daily telegraph will reveal how much they have bribed for 1982, Brisbane, Australia & 2006 CWG at Melbourne, Australia and how much they are offering for 2018 Gold Coast, Australia ?

  • This is ridicules claim by International media and I don't understand how can Indian media encourage it. Just couple of days back Minister of Commerce Anand Sharma in Canada replied to all of the claims made by media systematically and since then many of the international teams started accepting to come to India participate in the games. He clearly mentioned that due to heavy rains the work was messed up and media showed the old pictures claiming as current pictures. Current pictures are different. After PM sidelined Kalmadi and gave all the responsibility to Jaypal Reddi and Sheila Dixit, the situation changed withing 48 hours, and commonwealth federation chairperson Mike Fanel gave green signal to the arrangements. I wish this could have been done before and year.

I totally agree with what Ashish said. This is total ridicules claim made by international media and more over Indian media encouraging such news is shameful.

Well if CWG brings revenue more than the amount invested in facilities etc and this "bribe", i would look at it as an investment for a higher return. If Canada can offer money so can India. But it seems as of now that all that money has gone down the drain with Congress corruption. We've already spent more on the facilities than we can ever hope to bring in through these games.

A friend of mine has posted his comment in the Daily Telegraph, though I am not aware as to the

exact nature thereof. However knowing him,I am positive that it must be stinging.I am awaiting his mail that it has been published. If not then it will expose the rag that DT must be .

Meanwhile, all I can say in response to your question is that I entirely agree with the comments of Gabbar Singh and my friend,"M S".

The charge is not only ridiculous but fatuous.

    Have a Nice Day.

It is a fact, you don't have to agree or disagree. In competition to Canada to host the games, they offered amount of money to every voter country in excess to what Canada offered.

In fact , as per previous precedents ,at the end of the day, India should have been richer in terms of revenue generated from the event. But they have bungled it out....corruption & mismanagement has resulted in huge deficit both on Goodwill & Finance.

What I think there is a possibility of that. The reason of this thinking Congress raising the price of everything in the name of common wealth game. As all the people know they had used substandard things everything. Because I live in Delhi and can see the development in only few places of Delhi. Rest of the money is where is going, we don't know where is all the money is going.

it is a common feature in politics and at corporate level to buy a few votes when the fight is presumed/ found to be close.,

however the veracity of this news is highly doubtful as it was originated by the Australian Daily "The Daily Telegraph"

It should not. India may be able to host the game but i think it would be better for the Indian government to divert the fund meant for the games to help the so many poor people in the country. Moreover, the risks of terror attacks are always there.

If the media is encouraging it ,its good because Indian guv is like this only, they should see India's shame because of themselves only it is happening you should talk against the Center instead of commenting on media.
