My wifi works but internet won't connect.?

OK so - my internet is working (I am typing this on my laptop) but on my PC it won't connect. I've done all the diagnostic checks and it says the signal is good etc. But when I load up it won't connect to any sites.

My email comes in though (outlook)

I have microsoft XP...

any thoughts?

Thanks =)

Update:

Thanks Troy -- tried both but neither worked =(

If your email is working, then it is not network-related. It sounds like a problem with your browser. You could try clearing your cache, setting up a different home page, or even using a different browser (like Firefox). To clear your cache in IE 8, just click on Tools>Delete Browsing History>Delete. Then close your browser and try it again. If it fails to load, try setting a different home page (Tools>Internet Options, type the home page in at the top, click on Apply then OK, then close and re-open your browser).

9/26 edit - Okay. A few more things you can try (try one at a time and test):

    (1) Reboot. (First things you should always try are the simplest and most conservative.)

    (2) Is the PC directly wired to your router or is it wireless? If it's wireless, make sure you are actually connected to the wireless network. Right click on the computer icon in the lower right-hand corner of the task bar, select View Wireless Networks, and pick yours. Connect to it and type in the WEP or WPA key if required.

    (3) Reset your network adapter:

    a. Open My Network Places

    b. Click on View network connections

    c. Right click on the NIC (it will say Local Area Connection, or similar)

    d. Select disable

    e. Right click on it again

    f. Select enable

    (4) Reset your IP address

    a. Start>Run

    b. Type cmd in the run box (where it says open); click ok

    c. Type ipconfig /release in the black box at the > prompt and hit Enter

    d. Type ipconfig /renew in the black box at the > prompt and hit Enter

    (5) Reset your browser

    a. Tools>Internet Options

    b. Click on the Advanced tab

    c. Click on the Reset button

    d. Apply>OK

    e. Restart

    (6) Try a different browser if you have one (e.g., Firefox)

    (7) If all else fails, you can try a system restore to a date you know it worked.
