Bob, the express is single phase, and the wingmaster is three phase... alas it would be incredibly difficult to explain (after all, you're the cow here),

They make conversions in .38 birchwoodcasey superblue, but they tend to tear the Express frames apart in short order. I'd take the .257 RemOil or .221 BreakFree in it's stead.

Since I own a Wingmaster, I can tell you mine is also for 3" shells.

The difference is strictly in appearances. A Wingmaster is nicely checkered walnut stock and a glossy blued finish on the steel. An Express has a cheap hardwood stock and a cheap rough matte finish on the steel.

They have the same power, are available in the same shotshell lengths, and you can even interchange the parts between the two if you want.

If you appreciate style and can afford it, get the Wingmaster at twice the price of an Express.

If I'm not mistaken, (Naaaa!) the 870 Express will accept either 2 3/4 or 3 inch shells. Many Wingmasters will only accept 2 3/4 inch.

And, ohh yeah, the 870 Express is definitely a single phase (rotary) action.
