When you discuss music on here, do you want to hear Sterilized Neutral politically correct opinions?

or prefer to have people be a bit inflammatory, and get the juices running?

It seems like most people on here want the stuff they liked treated with the most utter of kids gloves, but want to flame anything they don't with all the Napalm of Hades and Vulcans bastard love child after a night of bad Mexican food.

It seems like 90% of the drama on here stems from that, so I was curious what people actually want to here when they discuss and debate music? Music (should) be about passion and emotional connection, so one SHOULD expect to see emotionally charged opinions, I would assume, but maybe I am wrong. (I try to be very objective when it comes to gauging actual skill or talent.. but that does not mean I won't shred something like a wolverine with liquid heat on its genitals if I don't like it)

MQ- Bands you feel are (sob) unfairly criticized and crucified on here?

MQ2- Last truly WOW worthy new album you have heard?

BQ- How do you respond when people bash YOUR favorite band?

BQ2- Why is Ben and Jerry's just so much better than anything else you can get at the Supermarket?

(not talking about the amazing regional stuff, but nationwide brands. Jeni's Splendid Ice Cream here in Columbus rapes anything else, anywhere. =P)

I want people to be honest and open about their true opinions, but I also would like to hear *why* they have certain views, especially if it goes against the consensus. however, if people are just saying it to be controversial, that I have a problem with. eg: not liking the singer's voice is not a justifiable reason to call a band crap.

There are certain much-loved-by-the-masses bands I can't stand, but I do try to give my reasons for not liking them. Surely we are all individiuals {I am a Wolf, not a sheep}, and each have a right to our own opinions ~ if we all agreed 100% about music, life would be f**king dull!

MQ: I don't think any band is critisised unfairly, but I do think a lot of critisim comes from people who have not fully researched the facts, eg: most Led Zeppelin fans know they re-worked several songs by other people without giving credit, and don't need some idiot to come along saying "they're a crap band, all they did is rip people off" {as a recent Q claimed}.

    MQ2: Nothing recent.

BQ: I try to be objective, not take it personally {why should I? They're not my personal possession!}, and either agree with 'faults' that I have noted myself, or give a clear defence of why I feel that person's judgement to be in error.

As I said earlier, comments like "the singer's voice is awful" {we all perceive sounds differently, especially voices, and what is good to some will be unbearable to others}, or "the guitarist can't shread" are, to me, 'non-justifiable' critisisms.

BQ2: I've never had Ben & Jerry's, but in Britain we have a great brand called Beechdean, which is made on a farm a few counties away.

I want people to say whatever they deem to be the best thing to say. Sometimes I'm "Mr. Logical" who says what he thinks while leaving out any sort of purposefully "inflammatory" remarks which just try to get a reaction.

Other times I do use such remarks/language because I think the reaction will be a good one in the long run. Either way I am saying what I think, and usually it is somewhat calculated even if I'm being "inflammatory" or "controversial", I don't usually just spew stuff without thinking.

However, "being logical" and "being controversial" are not at all mutually exclusive. Nor are "being logical" and "being politically correct" (nor does being PC always = logic). I suppose if there is a general tendency to my answers it is just trying to make some sense of things, rather than *trying* to be inflammatory or PC etc.

As far as how other people discuss music, I hope they discuss it however they like.

MQ: It's never "unfair", but if there's a band that doesn't get enough credit... idk, most I'd name are bands people just don't know... as far as popular bands which are criticized, none come to mind that I care to mention.

MQ2: The Whirlwind - Transatlantic, that was in 09. There have been good releases this year but nothing I'd call "WOW worthy".

BQ: If they make any fallacies I point them out and chalk the rest up to opinion. I suppose I might give an example of how their favorite band can be easily bashed too and how there's just no reconciling people's opinions.

BQ2: I haven't tried it much, but yeah brands like them somehow get a good formula that no one else latches onto. I'm not sure why.

I don't mind hearing something a little inflamitory; I like debate :) The one thing that bothers me, is an elitist perspective, you know, when people talk like they're "higher than thou" or whatever. That seriously sets me off.

MQ: I don't think I see any crucification of any bands on here, except for really sucky ones...

    MQ2: Ratatat's self-titled

BQ: Shake my head, and move on. It's not the end of the world. Opinions exist, everybody has one.

BQ2: BEN AND JERRYS IS SO GOOD! There's a tiny shop right down the street that sells their ice cream... I think I might go get some now. I'm really down for some Half Baked Brownie ice cream. (and agreed with Adam, it's because we're New Englanders and therefore are better than everybody else :D)

I mostly come here because I like finding new (to me) music. I don't care about the ins and outs of who is the best ______ and I usually don't participate in those discussions. I don't mind anyone bashing the music I like, lord knows some of it has it coming. I try to refrain from bashing bands on here, I just don't answers questions about bands I don't like. There's really no point in telling some 13 year old that Avenged Sevenfold sucks. He'll figure that out eventually. Like I did with Hootie & The Blowfish.

1: On here, I think Nickleback comes in for more of a bashing than they deserve. For what they are (music for people who don't really get into music) they are fine.

2: I liked the Florence + The Machine album.

1: Water off a ducks back.

2: Ben & Jerry's has eggs so I'm reduced to eating Breyer's which everyone informs me is an inferior product.

I'm fine with disagreements as long as they are constructive. What I can't stand more than anything else are intentionally inflammatory comments being made strictly with the purpose of stirring up trouble. Yes, that's the textbook definition of trolling, but you know what I mean.

MQ: It's equal opportunity around here, so I have no opinions on this.

    MQ2: Static Tensions - Kylesa.

BQ: I couldn't care less if people mock my favorite bands so I shrug and walk away. Or move to the next question if I'm here.

BQ2: OMG!!! I just saw something on Food Network about Jeni's. That looks awesome...wish it was around when I was in the Buckeye State. *sigh*

But back to the question at hand...Ben & Jerry's is pretty damn good. I don't indulge often, but it's bliss when I do.

I try to find the happy middle. I mean, if someone is being just plain stupid then I will insult a band for really no reason at all just to make them mad but nine times out of ten I try and give an honest opinion of a band. I don't want to make it sound like my opinion is higher than anyone elses cause that's just idiotic but at the same time I am going to be honest with my opinions.

I think it's very possible for someone to be passionate about the music they listen to without being a dick about it which is what I try to achieve.

    MQ: Whitechapel

    MQ2: For Today - "Breaker"

BQ: I try and tell them every reason why they're wrong.

BQ2: Uhhh cause it's from New England and we rule =D

You make some valid points in the main point of your question, but if some idiot wants to put a Disney Clone above ability.......well!!!!

MQ1: The worst flack I have read is about GnR/Slash. FFS, give them some credit!

MQ2: "American Slang"- The Gaslight Anthem.

BQ: Anyone that slags off The Jimi Hendrix Experience knows nothing about Music, so I treat them with contempt!

    BQ2: I Love Ice Cream!

Of course not --- We all have music opinions. I don't mind if someone doesn't like my favorite band... I mean, isn't that their opinion? I want to hear people's opinions, their dead honest opinions, and sometimes I like to hear why. I mean, R&P is a place of discussion; that's what we do here, we talk about bands, and our who's, why's, and all that great stuff. It's fun when people have opinions that don't get bashed. I like hearing people's opinions on why they like certain bands, and their opinions as to why they DON'T like certain bands, and it's perfectly fine with me. :)

MQ: Nothing, I guess. I mean, all criticism is fair; it's all their opinion. But I personally really like Pearl Jam, and seeing as they have a lot of hate here, I would like a WHY.

MQ2: Nothing so far. This year isn't going too good. I mean, until The Offspring comes out with the new album they promised before December 31...

BQ: I don't respond. They're stating their opinion, fine with me.

BQ2: Because trust me, that stuff is GOOD. Now I'm craving some, thanks a lot...

When people make unaccurate generealizations I don't mind when people are PC. But the rest of the time I love me some drama.

BQ: U2 -- I hate Bono but I've been listening to them recently and realized how talented they are.

    BQ2: Deadwing by Porcupine Tree

BQ3: I don't mind. I like the fact that we're allowed to exercise our freedom of speech.

BQ4: Well I live in Canada and we have President's Choice ice cream which is amazing. Ben and Jerry's is great though. I remember I first tried it when I was in South Carolina.
