  • Is there an online traffic school for my specific situation?

I got a ticket in Idaho, and I can't take an Idaho driving school course because I'm not a resident. I'm now back in California and supposedly I can take a CA traffic school to take care of this, but the ones online don't seem to have an option for tickets received in Idaho (certain other states though).

Does anyone know an online traffic school that works in this situation? If not, then a non-online one will do. I tried calling the court about this but I'd rather talk to people and not an automated message.

  • Full Album Music Videos?

I just saw TV On the Radio's take on this cool idea on Punch's Q here:

    http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AkU4X...

Do you know of any other "full album music videos", or maybe "album movies"? I think it's an ambitious idea and I'd like to see some more stabs at it, thanks for any help.

BQ: What albums do you think would make great movies and why?

  • Who are some of the greatest anime soundtrack composers?

I love the instrumental soundtrack to ‘Bleach’, composed by Shiro Sagisu, the guy is incredibly original and has a great eclectic style. The music fits the show perfectly and works well by itself too.

Who are the biggest names in this ‘genre’, and what are your favorite works by them? Links appreciated, thanks.

  • How essential is the "Album Experience"?

When you try and hear as much music as I and many people here do, I think there is the temptation to just hear a few of the "higher rated" songs from certain "less important" albums and then move ahead to something else. I have done this and thought I could judge the whole album based on them. Perhaps I sometimes can, but I've been thinking this is perhaps a less fulfilling way of music listening.

I'm certainly missing some of the context of the albums I do this with, and the context has varying degrees of importance depending on the album... but there's just too many albums to listen to. But what do you think, do you do this with some albums? Has the internet-given ability to pick and choose what tracks we get taken away from the "Album Experience", or is it good that we are now able to skip by all the "fluff" and get to the good stuff?

BQ: Favorite album that works best as a whole?

BQ2: Favorite album that has a bunch of great songs that don't need the context of the full "album experience" to be great?

  • What Concerts Have You Been To?

Here's a list of live music experiences I've had:

    http://rateyourmusic.com/list/KingCrimson776/live_...

If you've been to too many feel free to only put your favorites, and descriptions of the concerts along with any footage you could link from them or just of the band playing live in general would be cool.

  • Favorite Post Neo-Classical Gypsy Pornogrind Albums?

No but really what "genres" have you seen people use that are totally unnecessary? I think you hardly need any, tbh; if you want to describe a band beyond that then actually go into a specific description of the band.

BQ: What genres are actually useful for you in describing music?

  • Is There Such A Thing As Pure "Pop" Music?

What I mean by that is, is there some music which can simply be defined as "Pop" with no further description like "Pop Rock", or "Power Pop" etc.? Or can it always be further defined in such a way? Or perhaps the term Pop refers to "pop song format", such that many genres fit within "pop" or "popular music"? But it seems like it's used as a genre as well as being an abbreviation for the broader "popular music", and that's what I'm getting at here.

I just find that this term is ill-defined and I'd like to know how you use it. Here's a random list I made with a bunch of "Pop/Pop Rock" bands as arbitrarily defined by me. Comment or recommend any additions if you like:

  • Should the U.S. Impose Democracy on the Middle East?

The only justifiable reason for being there as I see it is if we can end the corrupt regimes and barbaric laws in some of the countries (anti-woman etc.), and then let the countries have a vote to see how each will proceed...

Then again I have a huge problem with the idea of imposing one's own ideals on another group of people, yet how will we know what the majority of people in a given area want until they can vote for it? But also there is the fact that it would further damage our economy to try and achieve this, and is one of the main reasons it is hurting in the first place (along with tax cuts to the wealthiest 1%... different issue).

Anyway, it seems like we are finally leaving Iraq soon, but should we (despite that we may not have had the right reasons for being there at first)? What do you think on this issue, the history of all of this is long and I know I'm missing many points but what is your view on the situation as it stands, thanks.

  • Songs you like from bands you don’t normally like?

For example I don't like Coldplay but I like the song "Politik":

It has a lot more edge than pretty much all of their other stuff, imo. What are some examples for you?

  • Who Are Your Favorite Individual Musicians?

We more often talk of full bands than the players that make up the bands, so who are your favorite individual players in music?

My criteria for this would be based mainly on how interesting/stimulating their ideas/style sounds to me... I don't take "influence/innovation" or "technical skill" much into account (although skill can facilitate a wider amount of possibilities and hence creativity). I guess this can culminate into what I'd call "Musicality" but that's another issue for another Q. Use whatever criteria you'd like.

  • I Think There Needs to Be a Bloody Revolution, BUT WHAT'S YOUR OPINION?

Holy ****, Obama is making *more* concessions to Republicans, this time extending the time there will be tax cuts on the wealthiest 1%. Why? What a ******* limpdick. He has to be bought off by the corporations, either that or he's being threatened and just filling out a spot until the Republicans can take charge again and **** over the middle class and let the oil companies run us into hell, but that doesn't make sense, one would think that kind of info would get leaked somehow, he's on the take.

Ok, I know, I'm ranting. But isn't that understandable at this point? What do you think about this situation? Why isn't Obama actually going for the jugular and making real change. **** the Republicans, they want an aristocracy ruling over the peasants, and the majority of their base are lower class idiots who are buying into their own doom. There is no "trickle-down" bullshit. The only trickle down that's falling on you is the fatcats pissing on you and your children's future. Them getting taxcuts will do nothing except **** you over, they'll continue to export our jobs to slave laborers in foreign countries, and make more money, while the middle class is destroyed and the poor get poorer.

And the Democrats are limpdicks who will do nothing about it, maybe they are drinking the Kool-aid too. I'm starting to think the only way to remedy this is blood flowing through the streets. Please, convince me otherwise.

  • How would you order the Beach Boys (and other BB-related) albums?

In terms of preference (out of those you have heard)? Here's my order, for now:

    Pet Sounds (1966)

    SMiLE (Brian Wilson, 2004)

    Surf's Up (1971)

Pacific Ocean Blue (Dennis Wilson, 1977)

    Sunflower (1970)

Summer Days (and Summer Nights) (has a superior version of "Help Me, Rhonda" than the one on "Today")

    Smiley Smile (1967)

    Brian Wilson (solo)

    Friends (1968)

    Today (1965)

    Wild Honey (1967)

    All Summer Long (1964)

    20/20 (1969)

    Love You (1977)

    Holland (1973)

    Surfer Girl (1963)

    Shut Down Vol. 2 (1964)

    Surfin' Safari (1962)

    Surfin' USA (1963)

That'll work for now, anyway let's see yours.

  • How do you rank the decades?

Here's my ranking of my favorite decades:

    1. 70's (A ton of my favorite music is from this decade, Progressive Rock, Jazz Fusion, some of the best Pop music of other sorts, Funk etc., also Steve Reich's "Music for 18 Musicians", one of my favorite albums ever)

    2. 60's (A lot of my favorite Jazz and popular music, some the best of Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Charles Mingus, Thelonious Monk, Herbie Hancock, and The Beatles, The Beach Boys etc.)

    3. 50's (Mainly because of Jazz (same names as above))

    4. 00's (Highly diverse time for music, less that I really like but there are of some my favorites ever like Transatlantic and a few others)

    5. 1910's (You have Ravel, Stravinsky, Bartok, Gershwin, Holst etc. all around this time still if I'm not mistaken, so I'll use this decade for that point)

    6. 90's (I really don't like actual "90's Music", as in music that sounds like it's from the 90's... my favorite stuff from this era is modern Prog)

    7. 80's (The 80's are just bleak for me, not much to my taste here.)

How do you rank your favorite decades (feel free to use other decades like the 1790's or something like that if you like but make sure to explain your choices)? Use as many decades as you like.

  • Why is my interest in finding new bands declining?

It occurs to me I'm no longer nearly as compelled to find new (to me) music as I used to be. Can and will you post some great music that you think pretty much no one has ever heard, but which is so good that it'll rekindle my desire to listen to more music?

I actually don't care what type of music you link, so I'll leave it non-specific. Make sure to link, thanks.

  • What types of video games would you like to see come out?

I'm a Nintendo guy, and I recently played Mario Galaxy 2, which was great, perhaps the greatest platformer made to date. However I'd love to see a 3D Mario game, for the Wii or the next main system, in which it has all the best aspects of Mario platforming, but also with more of a story (a la the Mario Superstar Saga games, perhaps), besides just saving the princess (and/or an RPG variation on this, tho I can't complain much about the Paper Mario series). Essentially I want the Ultimate Mario Game.

Also a new Star Fox game, mixing the best elements of both 64 and Adventures... and a new Kirby game, perhaps a 3D one this time, idk if that would work, but they did it with Air Ride, so mix that with the type of thing you do in Kirby 64 and you've got Gold. Basically I want Nintendo to try and make the ultimate example of all their franchises.

Hey, Yoshi and Donkey Kong need new games too (we'll see how the new DK and Zelda games are). I'd also just like to see more classic characters being created, and new original adventure/platformer games, I'm tired of the endless shooter games.

But what are your ideal new game ideas, and what would you like to see more of in the gaming industry? Thanks.

  • Is there any music which...?

... can't be defined as belonging to one of these categories:

Tribal/"World" (tho I strongly dislike the term "World Music"), Classical, Jazz (Ragtime counts as Jazz, I think), Popular Music (including Folk, Blues, R&B/Soul, Rock, Hip Hop, etc.), Progressive/Avantgarde, Electronic?

    ____________

Also, is "Electronic" truly a category it itself? Is it perhaps just a genre of Popular Music? What defines Electronic music, simply the use of "electronic instruments" (synths, computers etc.) (as distinguished from "electric instruments")? Or is there something inherent in the style which distinguishes itself as a genre/style in itself?

Personally I think you can have "Electronic Classical" or "Electronic Pop" etc., but "Electronic" in itself is not a specific style or genre, it's more of a "secondary qualifier" to the style/genre. But what are your thoughts on this?
