Who Are Your Favorite Individual Musicians?
We more often talk of full bands than the players that make up the bands, so who are your favorite individual players in music?
My criteria for this would be based mainly on how interesting/stimulating their ideas/style sounds to me... I don't take "influence/innovation" or "technical skill" much into account (although skill can facilitate a wider amount of possibilities and hence creativity). I guess this can culminate into what I'd call "Musicality" but that's another issue for another Q. Use whatever criteria you'd like.
Here's a list of mine on the topic:

BQ: Album with the greatest amount of musicianly excellence displayed on it?
What I mean here is more "players of music" and how good they are at that rather than simply "the actual names of people" as distinct from "band names"...
Also, links are appreciated, especially if the musicians you name are rather obscure.
@W&S, you know, that is a bit odd, but I included guys like John Wetton and I just edited to mention that he is probably my favorite male singer of all time. I may add other vocalists too though.

For me, technicality is right along side with style (which exception to vocals of course). Here's just an overview.
Sting (solo, The Police): Probably my favorite vocalist of all time. Many would disagree with me, but it's probably because I've been listening to him since I was born that I like him so much.
Josh Homme (QOTSA, Kyuss, Them Crooked Vultures, etc): He's probably my second favorite vocalist of all time. His voice is almost incomparable to anything else out there. Also he's a huge influence for independent artists out there, because his style is so unique.
David Garibaldi (Tower of Power): This man is just phenomenal at all percussion. ToP is a funk group, so he has the opportunity to use many various african percussion instruments, which he's mastered.
Steve Vai (solo): Not only is he the most skilled guitar player I've ever heard, but he has an outstanding style. By far my favorite guitarist.
Martin Corn (Lykathea Aflame): Martin Corn is the best metal drummer out there, in my opinion. Lykathea Aflame is an atmospheric death metal band from Egypt. They use many traditional elements to enhance their sound. And Martin fits in there absolutely perfectly.
Bootsy Collins (Funkadelic, Parliament, P-Funk): I wouldn't call Bootsy the best bassist out there (in my opinion Toshiya of Dir en Grey takes the cake in that contest) but he's still a great bassist, and I love his style, and how well it fits with the music.
Andrew Woolfolk (Earth Wind and Fire): Yes, another funk group. They seemed to have attracted some outstanding musicians. I pick Andrew because I'd say he's the most underrated saxophone player of all time. Saxophone being my dominant instrument, I know when someone has great technique. And this man does, along with his advanced playing ability. He may not be a John Coltrane, but I felt he was worth mentioning.

For me, Frank Zappa. A master Guitarist, leader of a great musical band in the Mothers of Invention, producer, song writer and just overall genius.
