Why do we use flowers to celebrate a holiday or to pay respects to the dead?
Just wanting to know if there was some ancient meaning that we give flowers for valentines and birthdays. As well as putting flowers on grave stones to pay respect to the dead? thanks

flowers hold the seeds of life itself. civilization arose only after man began to farm. it is said that women were the first farmers, and who better to understand the cycles of life? and life is held in the seeds.
besides, they are pretty and they smell sweet.

I see flowers as a way if representing a big event. Which, as we all know, can be good or bad. Also, as the person above me said flowers are said to hold the seeds of life so we give flowers at birth, while celebrating life, and while ending life.
