car engine not heating up when I drive, is something bad wrong?

Update:

Thanks, but is it okay to drive or do I need to take it to a garage immediately?

Update 2:

I touched the hood of the car and the engine is truly not heating up?

Is it truly not heating or is it just not showing on the display that it's heating? If you walk around, raise the hood, and the engine is warm, it's heating. If it is truly warm and you do not see that on the gauge, the engine temperature sensor is bad or the gauge itself is bad.

Try replacing the thermostat. It may be stuck open and not allowing the engine to warm up properly. A thermostat is not very expensive ($20 or less) and usually very easy to replace for a DIYer.

sounds like a stuck open thermostat. or ur car is out of coolant to the point where the coolant isn't flowing across the ect (engine coolant temp sensor) at that point the ect wont give a proper temperature reading.
