Why can't I connect to Xbox live?

Hello, I'm having trouble connecting to Xbox Live. The Xbox reports that it has access to the internet (and I've checked the ports are all ok) but it still can't connect to the xbox live servers. Our router broke so we ordered a replacement and since then I've had sporadic access. Resetting the router or restarting the xbox solves the problem for a couple of hours but I was after more of a concrete solution.

Thanks for your time

Xbox 360

BT homehub2

ethernet connection between the two

Update:

I've connected the xbox to the neighbours' connection and it seems fine.

make sure the SSID (connection name) like "home router" does not have any spaces or capital letters or funny characters. basically keep it as plain as possible.

Then it comes to security, WEP-PSK is good, try configuring through different encryption types and connecting. Sometimes the xbox has a better time connecting to the simpler ones, or just ditch security all together.

    Other options.

    option 1.

toss your router in a trash can and buy a newer / better one....

    option 2:

move the router and modem closer to the xbox and connect using the LAN cable

    option 3.

buy a really really long lan cable and have it run accross the house *punch holes in the walls if you have to in order to make it neater.

    option 4:

buy something called a powerline networking kit. Its fairily cheap and it kicks as$ compared to wifi.

you basically have 2 things you plug into the wall, one you plug into the wall next to ur router and connect a lan cable to it, the second you plug in to the wall close to ur xbox and connect the lan cable to it. The thing sends fast LAN signal through ur power lines anywhere in the house!

    WIN

    (i have option 4) :D
