To everyone who says "Evolution is only a theory"?

Because many Christians were never taught what a scientific theory is

Have you ever wondered since evolution is such a great theory like gravity why is it that we have an scientific established Law of Gravity but not a scientific established Law of Evolution? Simple, Evolution is NOT an established Theory unlike Gravity.

There's a difference between using the word "theory" in daily use, and an actual recognized SCIENTIFIC theory.

Alot of folks confuse the two.

People don't understand all of the evidence, proofs, examples, and tests that must be verified and peer-reviewed for something to be officially accepted and recognized as "theory".

The requirements are exhausting.

Yes all of that, and Evolution is still a theory. Textbooks still call it that.

Theory is by universal definition different from the definition of fact. It may be believed as fact but it is not absolute. It is a perceived model based on the continuing analysis of discovery. But the accepted model can change and be altered to new understanding and a theory model is always subject to questioning where as a fact is absolute.

Gee, I sound like Spock.

Is there a chance we might decide to stop using that word? It's the word I'm not happy about. We might just come up with a better word, who knows?

GOD's creatures are arranged in a heirarchy of distinct and separate species from the simplest to the most sophisticated. The highest in any given specie can manifest behaviour very similar to that of the lowest in the next higher specie. There's plenty of room for growth and development within any given specie. But there cannot be evolution of any specie into the next higher one.

That word involves us in a very simple mistake - the mistake of taking a heirarchy for a progression.

Accepting a theory as the best fit is fine, but that doesn't mean you stop looking for and evaluating alternatives.

I know eh? Last time someone tried this line, I suggested they show try walking off a cliff to prove that gravity must be false because it too is 'only a theory'. Strangely, they did not take me up on it.

Just tell them that a theory is a proven hypothesis verified by multiple tests.

I'm sure some guy just said "wow that person looks like a monkey......THAT'S where we came from! Lets throw this Bible away and go with this idea! Because it obviously makes sense that one species could magically change into another!"
