Under what conditions is a driver fined $200 along with another amount for speeding?
One person said he was fined $60 for going 12 mph over the speed limit. Another person said he was fined $284 for going 12 mph over the speed limit. Under what conditions does this extra $200 apply?

In my state, the state publishes a "model traffic code". This code lists almost 2,000 violations regarding traffic movement and vehicle equipment violations along with fines and points. Cities and counties usually adopt the exact same code (since the work is already done for them) but then set their own fines.
1.) One driver may have received a fine from the state troopers and the other driver received a fine from a city officer.
2.) Our fines in construction and school zones are doubled. So speeding in a construction zone now goes as high as $650. I think I read that some agency adds $200 for school zone violations in lieu of doubling???
3.) You friend may have tried his luck in court. The court here adds $150 to the original price to cover their costs for court.
That's all I can guess based on the information you provided??

if in the same area then think the guy that said he got the 60 is not telling the truth.
Fines tariffs are decided by the local divisions and it depends on what they say, also fines are extra if there are workers around...........also the extra amount might have been for dangerous driving, etc etc, unless you was at both tickets being issued and know the exact conditions and areas plus time of day then it is a guessing game............
Sometimes the police over here will drop down what your speed excess was so the ticket is not so high but that seems to be based on how nice you are about being stopped.

This would all depend on your state law.
In North Carolina, if you are traveling over 15 miles per hour in a 45 mph zone or higher, the offense is heavier and you can lose your license for a year on the spot. The same is true if you travel over 80 mph.
