Diatomaceous earth and apartments/dorms?

I am considering buying this product http://www.amazon.com/Safer-5170B-Crawling-Insect-... for my small studio apartment to keep centipedes away. I am concerned because it said it baits them, does this mean that every centipede in the building is going to come to my room to get at the stuff? That would defeat the purpose and be completely unbearable.

I am open to other suggestions. I am hoping to find something that doesn't necessitate evacuating the room for long and that won't poison my next door neighbors. Must kill centipedes.

Update:

I am reasonably sure they are centipedes. The brown ones with the tons of legs that look like they're furry. I CANNOT look at pictures or I will freak out, I have a severe phobia, so the best I can do is describe.

I don't appear to have any sort of infestation, I just saw one in my room and was upset by it and would like to do something to help deter them from coming in here (along with spiders). I have a 10.5x10.5 room plus a bathroom to deal with. I spoke to someone from the ortho home defense company earlier today and they said they had no indoor product that would work on centipedes.

Diatomaceous Earth is made from the skeletons of sea urchins. As such it is composed of microscopic particles that are similar to glass. Not harmful to humans but for bugs and creepy crawly critters it's like crawling across broken glass. It isn't actually a "bait" as such. You want to sprinkle it along window sills, door sills and wall edges where the critters can be expected to crawl through it. Great against roaches also. You can usually find it in the super market, Walmart or drugstores in a squeeze bottle for a whole lot less than buying it on line and paying shipping. You might also want to try Boric Acid powder which is avaikabke at the same places under names like Roach Pruf or Roach Away. Both are very effective against creepy crawlers.

That product pictured shouldn't be a bait...the way DE works is as the insect crawls through the DE it will adhere to them, over time it will cut into the exoskeleton causing them to dry out, it takes time...it is an aid in long term preventative measures, not good as a get rid of an existing issue. Are you sure they are centipedes and not millipedes.

Any of the do it yourself type pest product like Orhto Home Defense placed around the baseboards will help, should be pretty much odorless. A better answer can be given knowing exactly what you are dealing with.

Just the centipedes that are in your apartment. It will not draw others to you. It will dry them out when they crawl in it. I saw some of the DE in the organic section in Lowes. Wal Mart has it. Baby powder, talcum, and foot powders will work. They will dry them out too.
