Why do some people confuse not believing in God with hating God?
My muslim friend thinks that because I don't believe in God and I always debate with him why I don't think God exists he seems to think it's because God didn't provide for me when I expected him to. Which, don't get me wrong has something to do with it but I think he thinks that I believe in God but I hate him and me saying I don't believe in him is a way of getting back at me.
Do any other atheists ever experience this?
@ Londron what's wrong with it is that I can't hate something that doesn't exist. I don't hate santa and I used to believe in him. I don't hate the invisible man. You could say I hate religion, you could say I hate it when a humans belief in God interfears with my life but I take that up with the person not with God because i can't take up an issue with something that I don't believe is there. What don't you understand?
@ Londron Oh sorry I just realized you were quoting someone else. LOL my bad.

"I'm not atheist I'm Christian but some people who don't believe in God also hate him. "
Read that sentence again please and tell me what's wrong with it -_-.
Edit2: np
THIS is the very reason many atheists avoid religious nutjobs not capeble of thinking like the plague.

Yes, I experience that a lot on here, and a couple of times in real life.
For some believers, the very rejection of god is equivalent to a declaration of war, and they HAVE to believe that you hate god and all their religion stands for.
When in reality you often just don't care either way because it's all made up.

I'm not atheist I'm Christian but some people who don't believe in God also hate him. Others simply do not believe in God and don't care about him. Just explain that to your friend. Say you respect their beliefs if you respect mine.

A lot of religious people think we secretly believe in god and hate god. They can't fathom the idea that we just don't believe it exists.

How can you hate something that does not exist?
Sorry, Matthew. Biblical philosophy does not trump logic unless you're blinded by religious faith.

I don't understand that "Why do you hate God?" thing either. I don't hate Santa, Budha, or the Easter Bunny, why would I hate God?

It happens to me all the time. It's because people are generally close minded and if you don't agree with their ideas then you obviously have a personal vendetta against them.

Willful ignorance is a common thing among humans. It does not matter if you are religious or an atheist, its there.
