What the heck does "skype" mean?
There are certain words and phrases uttered by mostly adolescents and 20-somethings that I hear or read (at this site, among others) that seem like they are made up out of thin air; "skype" is one. Please educate this middle-aged dork!

Skype (pronounced /skaɪp/) is a software application that allows users to make voice calls over the Internet. Calls to other users within the Skype service are free, while calls to both traditional landline telephones and mobile phones can be made for a fee using a debit-based user account system. Skype has also become popular for its additional features which include instant messaging, file transfer, and video conferencing.

Its a video chat website. You call them up on skype and u your on webcam together.

It's a program you can download and use to video chat or message live with another person, assuming the other person also has it. You can read more or get it free at skype.com
