CVA BPI Hunterbolt 50cal. Mag Muzzleloader?
This is my first year hunting with a muzzleloader. I did some trading and got a CVA BPI Hunterbolt 50 Cal. magnum. Can anyone tell me how much powder charge I should use in this gun? Or how much can be used in it?

150 grains of black powder or a substitute like 777 or Pyrodex. Do NOT use smokeless powder.
150 grains is the standard "magnum" charge for a .50 muzzleloader.

To find the best charge for you rifle do this; get a white sheet or something similar start with 110 grains, fire from the kneeling position over the sheet about 3 feet from the edge.you will see unburned powder on the sheet, adjust the charge up or down till you have just a few unburned grains of powder showing.Keep in mind that there will always be some unburned powder you just need to adjust it down to a minimum. You can also do this over fresh snow. I don't know how well this would work with black powder substitutes but it works really well with black powder.
