Why won't external monitor (extended desktop) dim the screen on windows 7?

Power options are set to dim the display (laptop)

    Hi, the external monitor brightness isn't controlled by the operating system. Your laptop display on the other hand connects to the system using an inverter among other things and that is used to control the backlight.

    homestead windows expects those purposes to be dealt with by the exterior buttons on a video reveal, assumedly from what you're saying Macs shield those issues from easily menus in OS X so no, you are able to no longer do this, that's what occurs once you combine Mac hardware with an OS it wasn't designed to run.
