Baby is 12 days old...am i producing enough milk?

I am breastfeeding and up until yesterday I thought everything was going great. My little girl was eating all the time, sleeping 1.5 to 3 hours at a time. My breats were leaking. But now my breasts don't feel as full and tight and they aren't leaking like they were. She is still eating but not for as long each time and seems more like she is snacking rather than getting a full feeding. She is having plenty of wet diapers..poops are not quite as big.

Any suggestions I am concerned she is not getting enough milk.

Thank you

    This is totally normal.

When baby is first born your breasts make loads of milk just in case, then as your breasts learn how much milk your baby is taking your body will stop making this excess. So, it feels as though your breasts are not full but in fact you now have just the right amount for her. If baby is having wet diapers and poop then she's doing great.

The amount she feeds will change sometimes, that's normal too.

    :-)

  • Is she crying, or acting like she is hungary? Are you switching sides? Look to see if there is milk in her mouth. Just because your breasts are not hard any more dose not mean that your not making milk. Call the doctor's office and talk to them. It's not uncommon for a baby to lose a little weight at first. But again If you are concerned call the doctor.

No worries, she is getting enough as long as her output is good, and you say it is. Your breasts will start to calm down once they figure out how much you need. You are very lucky, it took mine almost 3 months to figure it out (very annoying!)! Go to:

    http://www.kellymom.com/

It has ALL of the info you need to breastfeed successfully. My little man is 5 months old, exclusively breastfed (yep, no solids yet) and I still refer to Kellymom!

Congrats! You are doing great, keep it up!

This is normal, and desirable. The initial hassles with engorgement and leaking are not permanent; your supply is supposed to taper off to exactly what your baby needs and no more.

    Very useful: http://www.drjacknewman.com/help/Is%20My%20Baby%20...

(The poo tapers off as well...! And they become more efficient at feeding)
