Do we really sound british?
I am Australian and when I go on the computer people say we sound close to the British (english) accent. Is that true? I don't think we sound like that but what do you think?

To me, australian sounds like the "hillbilly" version of british, in a god way that is :D I love the australian accent, I like how you go up in tone in the end of each sentence, it makes you sound constantly happy. and australian does sound kind of similar to the british accent (more so than the american accent I would say) but I can still tell the difference. Personally I find that Australians, British, and Irish sound similar but are pretty different. All three have a distinct accent especially Irish. So to answer your question, no, because I have met Australians and British people and I can tell the difference.

in my opinion....Australian English is more close to British English than American....as they use many synonyms from Oxford common usage terms.....
