I installed win 7 on an old 8183 computer and now there is no sound?
The computer was a "throw away"and all it needed was a new OS first I installed linux mint (which works great )but the person I'm giving it to is a total windoze lover so I installed a copy of win7ultimate for her alas the sound is not working .any suggestions? The computer is an old S50 IBM very low powered 1 GB ram 40 GB HDD but vit will help her as she is on a fixed income.
I should state that I have tried IBM home page but it links me to driver find or some such paid spot.(my generosity and patience can only go so far) any FREE help would be appreciated

It may be really hard to find since it a old computer but what you need to get is windows 7 drivers for that computer model or for the motherboard model. I found the drivers for that computer here but i don't see the sound drivers for windows 7:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/documen...
You can try using the windows xp drivers and see if it works which i doubt or you can try the Update your drivers and software automatically link on that site. If that doesn't work your only choice may be to install windows xp. Or look up more info for the motherboard and see if you find the sound drivers for it.
You can also try to install the driver via device manager.
Try to look it up by opening up the computer and finding the motherboard model information from that you can search for a sound driver for it. It is is a realtek sound device for example you would got to the realtek website to download the driver.
Another option is to buy a cheap sound card that has a driver for windows 7.I just thought that you could install a cheap sound card that has windows 7 drivers for it. It does seem to have 1 pci slot. So Get one of these here:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N8...
That is the cheapest one I could find that supported windows 7 in the document. It is around $30 but I bet you can search around and find one that is less costly. The criteria is that it is a pci card and is windows 7 compatible.
UPDATE:
Based on the reviews this lower priced sound card at $12 With shipping does work on windows 7:
