What's the significance of mesh all over running shoes?
I can't imagine what good it is, but they all seem to have it these days.
Okay if the shoes were made out of mesh only, then I could see the "breathable" thing, but they are just shoes with mesh over the top of the regular material. It really seems to serve no purpose. Obviously mesh only shoes would not be strong enough anyway.

It makes the shoes more breathable since peoples feet also sorta sweat a bit. Yea I thought it was sorta wierd too before I learned about it. Thing is, a problem with it is that if you are a cross country runner and you run through a puddle by accident, chances are your feet are gonna get pretty wet... Trust me, I've had the experience... It sucks.... So always have an extra pair of socks nearby!!!

Mesh-top running shoes are an excellent choice for ladling the water out of puddles, or collecting morning dew off of the grass on the side of the trail.
But in earnest, I think it is mostly cost savings, imho. Mesh is cheaper than fabric or leather. Mesh is rather useless if you want dry feet. Anybody who designs (trail) running shoes with mesh has not been on a trail and should roast in hell.

Probably since people's feet perspire, especially if they're running. Those shoes are "breathable"– they let air in and out in small amounts and people's feet don't get as sweaty.
