Does government create jobs or not?
Being a most hesitant resident of the plastic state of Texas, I am interested in a point that the current governor - Rick Perry - is making in his campaign ads.
In his current ads he is stating: while he has been governor, he has "created" 850,000 jobs.
Interesting, as most of the conservatives I know state that the government cannot and does not create jobs.
So, which is it cons: does government actually create jobs, or is Rick Perry (a current member of government, of course) once again lying to try to become the governor of Texas once again?
Cons, you can't have it both ways...so which is it?

Yes, of course - the police, fire service, public education, environmental maintenance, infrastructure maintenance, etc. In Europe, the range of activitites is much wider.
Even with 'small government', there still has to be quite a large cohort of public sector jobs - unless you want to revert to primitive barbarism.

Yes.
An easy example would be the stimulus money for road or bridge repair. A private company is hired to do the work. That company must hire enough people to complete the job, so in essence the government contract to repair the road or bridge created new jobs.
Now if Gov. Perry wants to take credit for using federal stimulus money (something he initially said he would not take) and creating jobs with it that is fine but shouldn't he give the credit to stimulus?

They government's revenues comes from the indoors maximum sector. So, the only ingredient that makes government jobs achievable is the life of inner maximum jobs that pay taxes. government can no longer create jobs exterior of government, it may basically redistribute them (i.e. take $one hundred in taxes from corporation A [dropping a job] and giving it to corporation B ["transforming into" a job]). actually each and every person which could no longer see it particularly isn't dwelling in certainty.

The government does not "create jobs" in the respect that they create productive sustainable jobs in the private sector. What the government can do is reduce taxes on companies and make an inviting environment for business and job growth. What he is stating in his ads is that due to his policies, private businesses have grown and showed employment increases. I am sure that an individual who actually believes that the government creates jobs other than public or government jobs would not understand how a "governor" or other elected official could "create" jobs. Now if increases as shown in a state, usually it would be the government's policies that assisted in the job growth and creation in private industries.

The creation, destruction, or saving of jobs is hard to determine. That is why there is still an ongoing debate on how large the private sector should be in comparison to the private sector, how much taxes there should be, and who should pay the taxes. It is best to not believe politician's claims on the subject.

What is the purpose of a job-----to supply a demand.
Government can create demands in the system thru their business policies or thru direct hiring.

This is idiotic. Of course Government creates jobs. Its like Park Rangers and DMV workers. As there are more cars registered, they need more employeee. Thus Jobs are created.

Government can create government jobs. These are the most worthless of all jobs.
I'll take a government that keeps its hands off of the economy (and a whole lot of other stuff).

anyone or any organization can create jobs.
Jobs are created WHEN SOMEONE - a business, or nonprofit agency, or government - says "We need someone to do that job".
Then they hire someone and pay them.
Governments create jobs when they PAY PEOPLE to build or fix roads, bridges, sewers, parks, govt buildings, etc.
Govts createj obs when they create an environment which encourages businesses to hire people.

The gov't does not create jobs, the ad was talking about how many jobs were created under him, likely because of relazation of govt restrictions.
