Publishing a book, just one?

For the heck of it, I'd like to see one of my works in a professional book. Edited, with the glossy paperback cover and all. Here's the thing, I'm not exactly interested for it to be 'officially' published. This is due to the reason I have the feeling it will be rejected and I don't have the funds. Anyways, I just want ONE copy of the real thing. Anybody know how I can do this?

Yeah, If it is more than 50,000 words you can receive a free copy of a book (don't worry paperback). go to this website and register: www.nanowrimo.org and I am an author. I have written 4 books. Happy writing, may the typewriter be with you!

Yes, there is a way to do what you want, and the cost is modest.

I've published a number of books through http://lulu.com./ There are other sites that offer self-publishing, but all the ones I have looked at require you to buy 25 or more books -- which can run up into money! At Lulu, you don't have to pay them a cent unless and until you want a copy of your book. Warning: Do NOT be taken in by their offers of wonderful "packages" which will make your book ever so much better (so they say). These "packages" in some cases cost around $1000. Wow! You don't need _that_much help. Nobody does.

Here's what you do: Make a good copy of your book text. As errorless as humanly possible. Don't forget page numbers and other such tiny details.

Now, make a pdf of your copy. That is what you will want to upload to Lulu. As to covers, Lulu has a bunch which you can use, for free. Or else you can create your own cover, or get someone you know who is good at art to do it for you. (Be sure to acknowledge such a person in your book.)

Okay, after you have uploaded your text, then upload your covers -- front and back.

That is about all there is to it.

Suggestion: Lulu invites you to "test drive" them. This is a good idea. Upload something -- it doesn't have to be your book -- just to see how it is going to work. This won't cost you anything unless you want to buy one copy of it.

Unless your book is pushing 500 pages, it should cost you well under $10 to buy a copy.

    Good luck!

Whorleb...is right. lulu.com sounds just like what you want. You can upload your book and get only one copy printed if that is your desire. One word of warning. Do not be tempted by their Writer's Packages. They will not help you sell or promote your book. They are not worth the money you would have to spend on them. STAY AWAY FROM ALL WRITERS PACKAGE offered by self-publishers.
